What Shoppers Say About Cottage Inn Pizza
Cottage Inn Pizza divides shoppers sharply, with ratings clustering at extremes rather than middle ground. Supporters praise solid food quality, accommodating customer service, and willingness to work with dietary needs, with some customers reporting loyalty spanning decades. However, a substantial portion of reviewers report significant problems: undercooked or soggy pizza, poor ingredient quality (including visible skin and cores), inconsistent execution of orders, and inadequate resolution when complaints are made. Multiple shoppers describe receiving store credit offers as insulting responses to poor service, and several report issues specific to particular locations, especially regarding delivery reliability and staff responsiveness.
Service problems emerge as a recurring frustration alongside food quality concerns. Complaints include rude staff interactions, unresponsive phone lines during delivery delays, and management approaches that dismiss rather than resolve customer issues. The contrast between five-star and one-star reviews suggests significant variability in experience across locations or individual orders, making consistency a notable pain point for potential customers.

Sorted by: Most recentI've been ordering from Cottage Inn since around the late 1980s. The food quality is really solid, but their policies and how they treat customers can be pretty rough. Skip the State Street place in Ann Arbor. I actually stopped going there last year because of rude staff on the phone and in person, plus they kept messing up what I ordered. The Washtenaw Avenue location in Ypsilanti is way better and that's where I get my takeout now. But here's what bugs me: they started charging a credit card fee at the Ypsilanti spot recently. Also annoyed me when they put pizza sauce on my veggie subs even though I said put it on the side a couple of times. Sometimes the pizza isn't cooked through enough and the toppings shift around too much. Their delivery fee is also pretty ridiculous. Back in the 1970s I delivered pizzas myself and not a single pizzeria charged fees back then. No reason to do it now either. They should drop that credit card surcharge.
I ordered a large New York style pizza through a delivery app on February 28th and it was terrible. I called to complain and the manager offered me store credit. Are they serious? Why would I want to order another pizza when the first one was terrible? The management is bad and the pizza is bad.
This is my first review ever because this restaurant was so bad I felt like I had to. I'm posting about them everywhere I can find. Just stay away from this place. When they mess something up, they basically tell you to deal with it instead of actually fixing the problem. Save your time and your money and order somewhere else. This is the second time in a row they got my order wrong.
The location in Bay City basically took my money. I ordered two pizzas about 45 minutes before closing and was told it would arrive around 9pm. The food never showed up. I called repeatedly, probably ten times or more, but nobody picked up the phone. At 9:15 we ordered from somewhere else. Turns out they did deliver it at 9:30 but the driver didn't knock and we didn't see it sitting there. My husband finally found it at 2am. They're refusing to refund my fifty dollars. They're pushing a credit or a remake instead. In this economy I need my money back, not a credit or more food. I even have video of the driver dropping it off without knocking. The worker who helped me this afternoon on June 14th was incredibly rude and not interested in actually solving my problem. She told me I was being unreasonable and unprofessional. But it's just fifty dollars. They have it but I don't. We're done with this place unless they give us a full refund. This whole situation is just ridiculous.
We've ordered from here several times and every single time it's been great. The customer service team really goes out of their way to help. The owner does a fantastic job making sure they work with what you need, like when my partner needs dairy-free options. Nothing bad to say about this place. We'll definitely be back.
The pizza I got was not fully cooked and honestly pretty gross. It was way too wet and soggy. The toppings were in huge chunks which wasn't great. You could see onion skin, tomato cores, and thick yellow pepper pieces that you'd normally throw away if you were making pizza at home. This was the only pizza where I literally had to spit the toppings out onto my plate because I couldn't actually chew them. Ordering was also a pain. The person taking my order had trouble with English which made the whole thing harder.
You have to try Cottage Inn Pizza. The food is really nice and the service is good.
The pizza here isn't amazing but it's worth checking out. Honestly it's about on par with Dominos or Little Caesars, nothing worse or better. I like mixing things up instead of ordering from the same place constantly. Might order again in a couple weeks but it's not the best option out there.
This pizza honestly tastes like straight up cardboard. I ordered one and it was basically just cardboard with red sauce on top. It didn't taste good at all and I really didn't enjoy it. The whole experience just wasn't worth it.
