Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is rated 1.9 out of 5 by 7 shoppers, with a significant majority expressing dissatisfaction. Common complaints center on strict door policies that turn away customers even minutes after showtime, age-related entry restrictions that differ from competitor practices, poor customer service experiences, and declining food quality and seat comfort. Shoppers report feeling that the theater has lost its original appeal and that policies are not customer-friendly, with several recommending alternative theaters in their area.
Among the few positive experiences, customer support stands out as a bright spot. One shopper praised the support team for handling a billing error with a full refund and additional assistance, demonstrating that individual staff members can provide helpful service. However, this isolated positive experience is far outweighed by the negative feedback regarding overall operations, entry policies, and the theater's departure from what made it distinctive.

Sorted by: Most recentThe company completely ruined what Alamo used to represent - a real haven for people who love cinema. I tried ordering through the app for the first time today and it was a nightmare. For starters, this whole phone ordering thing feeds into phone addiction, which is the opposite of what a movie theater should be about. It used to be the one place you could actually disconnect. Using the phone to order sends a message that discrespecting the filmmaking art form is okay and takes away from why we're paying to be there. They don't even turn off unnecessary lights so you can actually see the menu. And the menu itself is pretty pointless since you have to click through basically every single item individually just to see what stuff costs. Also, if someone gives you a gift card, good luck - the app doesn't support them, so the gift recipient basically has to camp out at the counter to place an order. There were maybe six of us in the theater and literally every single person groaned when they showed that Sony apology message on the screen about using phones and "don't be a jerk." The whole thing felt like Alamo lost what made it special.
Over time this place has really gone downhill when it comes to how they treat customers. The food quality is pretty average and the seats aren't as comfortable as they should be. You'd honestly be better off checking out one of the other movie theaters around town instead. Can't really recommend it.
Absolutely terrible experience. We got there just one minute after the doors closed, and they refused to let us in despite being that close to on time.
I totally messed up by purchasing a Season Pass on the wrong account when I was trying to send it as a gift to my partner. It was completely my fault for not reading through everything first. I reached out to their support team and got help from someone named Marvin who not only gave me a full refund but also helped me purchase the pass correctly under the right account. Marvin was super nice, really patient, knew his stuff inside and out, and got everything taken care of right away. The venue itself is already fantastic, and their customer service team clearly maintains that same high standard. Huge thanks to Marvin for fixing my mistake so quickly!
My friend and I got turned away at the door because we're under eighteen. They claimed it's because of the bar, but other theaters like AMC have bars too and they don't care about age. They already scanned our tickets and refused to refund us the twenty dollars - basically just took our money. Their policy is completely ridiculous. Skip this place if you're a minor.
I took my family to see a movie including two relatives who were home on military leave before deploying. I bought ten tickets and wanted everyone to have a great time. What I didn't realize was that if you showed up even fifteen minutes late, you weren't getting in. Our sixteen-year-old niece was stuck in traffic from cheer practice. When she finally arrived, they turned her away completely. The place was practically empty with maybe twenty people spread throughout, plus staff constantly moving around with food and drinks. This poor kid ended up stranded because someone had dropped her off, and two of us had to leave the movie to go pick her up and console her. We tried explaining to the manager that she was only sixteen and would be sitting quietly by herself, but he refused to let her just walk to her seat. The lack of sympathy was unbelievable. And just to add insult to injury, the server put an upside down cross on our bill. I'm really disappointed in how they handled this situation.
I used to work at this location and now I'm a regular customer, so I've finally got some things to say. Seriously, avoid going when it's crowded because that usually means every other theater in town is packed too and they're short-staffed. The cups and eating utensils are nasty - I'm talking rust and leftover food on them. Management basically brushes this off saying "it's dark in there, nobody will notice." Then there's the food situation. It's consistently served cold or barely warm, so honestly just grab something before you arrive. When you do order, expect the burger to come out hot but the fries will be ice cold. Chicken tenders come undercooked sometimes. Or better yet, you might not even get your food at all but they'll charge you anyway, which is hilarious in the worst way possible. The real problem is understaffing combined with not letting employees take their breaks. I've heard managers call people "the worst customers ever" for simply asking for properly cooked food. I personally got sick from eating there, and multiple staff members plus friends have told me they got food poisoning after meals here too. The cooks are apparently leaving food out and not following proper temperature guidelines, which definitely explains things. One more thing - some of the management has some serious bias issues.
