What Shoppers Say About GameFly
GameFly is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 22 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. The most consistent complaints center on slow shipping times, with customers reporting waits of six to seven days for game delivery and over a week for returns. Shoppers also report issues with customer service quality, unclear billing practices (including charges that weren't properly explained), and limitations on game availability. Several reviewers mention the paid fast return option as an unreliable upsell that creates frustration when the standard service is already slow.
A small minority of reviewers gave positive ratings, though their specific feedback is not detailed in recent submissions. Among the critical reviews, shoppers express frustration that GameFly's service has declined over time, particularly regarding shipping speed, game selection for multi-game plans, and how the company handles defective discs or refunds. Customers indicate they feel the service no longer justifies its cost relative to alternatives, and some report being unable to get basic account issues resolved through customer service channels.

Sorted by: Most recentThe idea is good but the way they run it isn't. Their customer service reps are pretty rude to deal with. They push their paid fast return option which honestly seems unreliable and clearly causes them major problems. Seems like an easy way for them to squeeze extra money out of your membership while you're stuck waiting up to two weeks between game swaps.
Everything gets slower each month and I really don't get it. I'm waiting six to seven days just to receive games and over a week to send them back. Plus they're not making nearly as many copies available. Maybe offer a shipping option that doesn't totally suck.
I signed up for what was supposed to be a free trial and got all the way through adding my card details. They ended up charging me twice at $9.95 each. Then they told me the charges didn't go through and my account setup wasn't complete. When I asked customer service about it, they said there's no account linked to my email but they're keeping the twenty bucks they pulled. That's not a free trial, that's theft. Not giving them another shot.
This whole experience has been incredibly frustrating and a huge hassle. When did GameFly get so bad? I saw a deal here that beat everyone else's price, but you really do get what you pay for because the game didn't work. They won't do a straight swap and now I'm stuck waiting up to 30 days for a refund. This isn't 2005 anymore, they need to step up their game. I should've just spent the extra five or ten bucks somewhere else and gotten a working product. Total letdown.
The shipping is painfully slow. I reported a disc that wouldn't play and they threatened to charge me for it because they didn't get it back within a week.
GameFly used to be solid but now they're below average. They scam people with multi-game plans by sending older titles while you wait way longer for your second copy to ship. They lie about shipping dates too. Said a game shipped on 7/1 but I didn't get it until 7/18. My second game has been stuck in limbo for two months. The shipping is unbelievably slow and returning stuff takes forever. They also don't update your account status properly because they'd rather take your money for subscriptions while stringing you along with older titles instead of the new ones. They used to be legit but now it's just a rip off. I've been a long time subscriber and finally had to cancel until they get their act together.
Terrible attitude from their team. They canceled my membership during a free trial and then told me I needed to pay even though they had my card information. Most games, whether they're brand new or retro, they don't have in stock. Your money is better spent elsewhere. The whole customer service department is rude and unprofessional. They were talking about stuff that doesn't even apply. Honestly done with them. I'm blocking all their emails and calls from now on. I've got proof from emails showing everything they got wrong about my account status and timeline. Their rating of 1 here is actually too generous based on how they operate.
Stay away from this company. They promise they shipped your game but then it never shows up. You call to report the missing order and instead of helping, they just deactivate your whole account. I reported the whole thing as fraud with my bank and got my money back because of how they handled it.
I tried out the trial, returned my games pretty quickly, and canceled. Months later I wanted to come back as a customer and found my account had been shut down permanently. They won't explain why, but kept throwing excuses at me. First they said suspicious activity on an old account, but I told them I never had one before. Then they claimed I swapped labels on game cartridges. That doesn't add up though because they never tried to charge me back or reach out if that were really the case. It seems like maybe a small mistake on their end, but they won't own up to it or fix it. Now they've blocked me from even contacting support because I keep asking them to look into it.
This service keeps getting worse and worse. Every time I come back, there's more problems. During one entire month of membership I only got a single game. I held onto it for just four days and sent it back, thinking I'd be in time for the new releases. I watched my mail carrier pick up and scan the return. Then it took four more days for GameFly to actually receive it, which shouldn't happen since they supposedly have a system that tracks the moment a return is picked up. Because their system is broken, I missed out on both games I wanted when they came out. To make it worse, I kept checking those titles and saw availability move from low to normal several times, yet they still never sent them. I'm seriously thinking about filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They're clearly not delivering on what they charge people for.
