What Shoppers Say About Johnson Fitness
Johnson Fitness has a sharply divided customer base. Shoppers who receive attentive in-store service praise knowledgeable staff who take time to understand their fitness needs and provide honest guidance on pricing and warranties. One customer with lower back problems reported that personalized recommendations led to finding ideal equipment. However, the overwhelming majority of reviews cite severe operational failures that dominate the experience: orders placed six weeks or more ago remain unshipped with no accountability, inventory management appears broken (items sold despite being unavailable), and customer service is unresponsive unless customers repeatedly follow up. When issues arise, the company deflects responsibility rather than resolving problems.
Product durability and support concerns also emerge from multiple reviews. Customers report defective items arriving, unclear guidance on maintenance (white particles on treadmills, belt vibration issues), slow warranty service responses, and poor trade-in value on equipment purchased only one to two years prior. The contrast between positive in-store interactions and negative post-purchase experiences suggests Johnson Fitness struggles significantly with fulfillment, customer service responsiveness, and standing behind its products.

Sorted by: Most recentShopping at Johnson Fitness Layton was fantastic. Ryan took the time to ask the right questions to figure out which equipment would work best for me. He was super honest about pricing and warranty details. I have serious lower back problems and the seated elliptical has been perfect - way better support than a regular elliptical would give me. Both the purchasing experience and the workouts have been amazing. Really grateful for the help.
Placed my order six weeks ago and my treadmill still hasn't been shipped. Turns out they sold me something that wasn't even available in inventory and they still can't say when it'll arrive. When they do respond it's short, dismissive, and only happens if I keep pushing them. Nobody reaches out proactively with updates or takes responsibility, just vague guesses about timing. This has been incredibly aggravating and misleading. Looking at their reviews, it seems they simply don't care about treating customers well. It's unfortunate for a company in this business.
Don't buy from this company. My order is running behind schedule with no end in sight. They won't take responsibility saying delivery isn't their concern. Completely unacceptable.
Purchased a Johnson Fitness treadmill and after some use, white particles started appearing on it. When I mentioned it to the sales staff, they said not to worry and suggested it was just because of inactivity or dryness. A year later the belt started vibrating badly even though I'd been using the lubricant as instructed. Called for service and learned not only was the belt damaged, but the entire platform needed replacing too. They charged me 200 bucks just to tell me this. Then they quoted 480 for parts, 200 for labor, plus 80 for the service call. A cheap treadmill I bought from another store lasted way longer and only needed a belt replacement.
We bought the Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells and after only a year and a half, we're being offered just one third of what we paid as a trade in voucher. Complete ripoff.
Customer service here is basically nonexistent. I bought the Horizon Indoor Cycle 7.0 and it arrived broken right out of the box - the motor controlling resistance doesn't work. I contacted their support team and they told me to create an online ticket. A few days later someone called and it seemed like they'd get it fixed fast. Now over two weeks have gone by with absolutely no contact. I've tried calling their support line multiple times but it's just voicemail no matter what you select. I paid over nine hundred fifty dollars for a brand new bike and got a complete dud.
My treadmill quit working after being with me for about two years. I reserved a maintenance appointment and was quoted 100 for the service call. Then I got an invoice for over 600 to complete the repair and inspection. That's the full cost just to have them come look at it and fix it. Labor would be under 200 of that, but if they need to bring parts, I'd apparently have to pay that entire amount again. These charges seem way too high. I understand there's a service fee but they should be able to handle the repair in one visit since they know what model it is. Paying more than 600 just to have someone inspect seems unreasonable. I'm disappointed and regret recommending this company to a friend who also purchased one.
I bought an elliptical machine because I needed it for physical therapy before major leg surgery in about a month. This company's involvement with third party sellers made it hard to realize who I was buying from. The machine arrived damaged. They took forever to respond to my contacts. When they finally sent an engineer, he installed used replacement parts instead of fixing it properly. Demanding a replacement meant more weeks of waiting. They suggested that free installation for the replacement was compensation for all the trouble, initially blaming me for not reaching out correctly, then admitting they still had outdated contact info from a management change over a year prior. Now I'm not going to be physically prepared for surgery and could end up with partial disability. They won't offer meaningful compensation and basically told me to return it if I'm unhappy. This is an awful company to deal with.
Ordered a Bowflex treadmill and got sent a broken one instead. Johnson has refused to ship the bad console and keeps delaying - it's been six months now. They won't return it or give me a replacement. They want me to deal with the local dealer while the dealer wants Johnson to step up. This is shady business with awful support. I'm prepared to pursue legal action.
I ordered a Bowflex treadmill and received a broken unit. Johnson won't send the replacement part and keeps pushing the delivery date back - it's been half a year now. They refuse to return or swap out the entire machine either. Instead they want me to hassle the local dealer while the dealer wants Johnson to handle it. Their support is terrible and their business practices are questionable. I'm planning to take legal action against them.
