What Shoppers Say About Johnson Fitness
Johnson Fitness has a sharply divided customer base. Shoppers who receive attentive in-store service praise knowledgeable staff who take time to understand their fitness needs and provide honest guidance on pricing and warranties. One customer with lower back problems reported that personalized recommendations led to finding ideal equipment. However, the overwhelming majority of reviews cite severe operational failures that dominate the experience: orders placed six weeks or more ago remain unshipped with no accountability, inventory management appears broken (items sold despite being unavailable), and customer service is unresponsive unless customers repeatedly follow up. When issues arise, the company deflects responsibility rather than resolving problems.
Product durability and support concerns also emerge from multiple reviews. Customers report defective items arriving, unclear guidance on maintenance (white particles on treadmills, belt vibration issues), slow warranty service responses, and poor trade-in value on equipment purchased only one to two years prior. The contrast between positive in-store interactions and negative post-purchase experiences suggests Johnson Fitness struggles significantly with fulfillment, customer service responsiveness, and standing behind its products.

Sorted by: Most recentJohnson Health and their Bowflex brand are apparently the fitness retailer of the year. My spouse needed a C6 exercise bike to build up strength for cancer surgery after chemotherapy. We also bought the padded seat upgrade since her body no longer has natural cushioning from the cancer treatments. The seat slider attachment turned out to be defective. We asked for a replacement and were told it wouldn't be available for two and a half months - right when she needed it most. We suggested they get creative and pull a slider from their massive inventory of bikes to help someone in her situation. John Howell at customer service ignored our proposal entirely but generously told us we could return the useless bike for 155 dollars plus an extra 20 percent restocking fee. So we paid nearly 900 for a bike we can't use while they profit off returning our money. How is this acceptable?
Purchased a Johnson Fitness treadmill under two years ago and the belt is already worn out. I've been trying to reach their customer service team but can't get through to anyone. This is disappointing, especially since even Costco carries their products and I expect better quality from something they stock. Find another brand and save your cash.
Bought a Matrix commercial elliptical that was refurbished. The integrated video screen throws error code 04B0 after just five minutes of exercising. Johnson Fitness is impossible to reach - they simply don't pick up the phone. Absolutely hopeless customer service. Shop elsewhere and keep your money.
I strongly advise against this company. An elliptical arrived at my place broken and was also set up incorrectly and never tested properly. It took ten days and about thirty phone calls just to get someone to acknowledge the issue. The sales supervisor Steven was rude and wouldn't budge on a 200 dollar delivery fee refund, acting like that was his personal decision to make. He said once it's assembled, the fee is final, regardless that the poor assembly made the machine useless. I reminded him that I paid 200 dollars to avoid installation hassles, but instead I spent seven hours fixing problems and coordinating repairs. He made it clear he had final approval on refunds and only the company president could override him, which won't happen. His attitude was condescending and he refused to acknowledge the delivery team's double mistake. I will never buy from them again and urge others to do the same.
Stay away from Johnson Fitness and Matrix products. A Matrix A30 elliptical showed up at my place on November 1 and was installed. The installation team found it was defective while testing it. Johnson Fitness and Matrix refused to give me my money back without slapping me with a 25 percent restocking charge. They want to make the customer pay for their mistake in sending a broken product. Avoid doing business with them.
We bought a Matrix treadmill recently and after two weeks of regular use, we're absolutely loving it. Sure it's pricier than mass market store brands, but you really do get superior quality. The in store experience was wonderful too with excellent staff who guided us through everything. All went smoothly as planned. I'm giving them a full five stars and would definitely recommend.
Got a Matrix treadmill delivered to our house and we've been using it for two weeks - absolutely incredible! Yes, it costs more than what you'd find at the typical chain stores, but the quality is clearly worth the investment. The shopping experience was outstanding too. The staff members helped us through the whole process smoothly and everything went according to plan. Highly recommend Johnson Fitness to anyone serious about fitness equipment.
Both the Arlington and Southlake locations have disappointed me. The Arlington store wasn't straightforward about trading my elliptical for a new one. The Southlake location actually responded but offered only 200 dollars to trade for a practically unused machine worth at least 2000 that we purchased for 3000 just two years ago. It's frustrating how many businesses operate this way in America.
My wife and I really value excellent customer service and don't mind spending extra for it. Unfortunately Johnson Fitness was a huge letdown. We walked in on a Saturday evening and the salesperson wearing a ponytail completely ignored us. He was helping another customer but couldn't even acknowledge us with a simple hello or let us know he'd be available soon. DO NOT SHOP HERE! The treatment felt discriminatory. It's frustrating because we came ready to buy fitness equipment that night, yet he ignored us while spending time with someone who didn't end up purchasing anything. He never made eye contact or showed any interest in helping. Really disappointing.
Really upset with Johnson Fitness customer service and support team. Back in March 2022 I requested a treadmill repair and as of August 2022 still had zero updates. When the repair person first came out, he didn't really inspect anything - he just switched it on, looked at what the display showed, and immediately started filling out a work order. I had to push him to actually take the machine apart and figure out what was actually broken. After he finally did some real inspection, he still charged me 100 dollars for essentially nothing. Honestly if I hadn't forced him to do a thorough job, he would have billed me regardless. Their support team ignores my messages, phone calls, and emails. After half a year of following up with no results, I told them to forget about it. By now my savings from waiting could have paid for a completely new treadmill. I was shocked when I saw other complaints online because I thought I was the only one dealing with this frustrating company.
