The J. Peterman Company Reviews
What Shoppers Say About The J. Peterman Company
The J. Peterman Company receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 1.4 out of 5 based on 23 reviews. While some long-time customers acknowledge that product quality and design remain solid, nearly all criticism centers on severe operational failures: extended refund delays lasting months to nearly a year, orders that never ship, unresponsive customer service relying on automated replies, and shipping errors where customers receive wrong items. Multiple reviewers report that the company fails to follow through on promised resolutions and has essentially become unreachable after purchase issues arise.
Former loyal customers describe watching the company deteriorate significantly, with customer service that was once reliable now described as nonexistent. The consensus among reviewers is that purchasing from J. Peterman carries substantial risk due to the inability or unwillingness to resolve problems after a sale, leading most dissatisfied shoppers to recommend others avoid the company entirely and take their business elsewhere.

Sorted by: Most recentBeen shopping with J Peterman for a long time and their quality is consistently good. My advice though is watch the sizing carefully. The real issue is when you have to return something. Once you do, they disappear on you. They owed me money for close to a year. Lots of promises but no actual refund.
Avoid this company at all costs. I returned a dress in May following their refund guidelines and months later I'm still waiting. Like others have mentioned, you just get automated responses that don't help. They're basically stealing from their customers.
I placed multiple orders that never actually shipped. Customer service only responded with generic questions or automatic replies. Seems like nobody's actually managing the company anymore. It's sad watching what used to be such a great company fall apart like this. A lot of customers, including myself, have moved on.
Used to be a loyal customer, but not anymore. J Peterman's customer service was solid back in the day. Now it's terrible. The return and refund process is absolutely unacceptable. Looking at reviews from other customers, I can see everyone's dealing with extended waits for their credits. I'm done shopping there and I've told my family and friends to avoid them too.
We delivered merchandise to this company over two years ago and still haven't been paid. They've completely shut down email communication with us. It's unacceptable that they keep refusing to settle the invoice.
I've been buying from J Peterman for a really long time and I like what they make. Here's the thing though: I've spent nine months trying to get something fixed that happened before last Christmas. Their warehouse has labeling problems so customers get shipped the wrong items. They promise they'll look into it and fix it every time. But that's as far as it goes. The customer service reps are nice enough, but whoever's actually in charge of making decisions about fixing things just isn't doing their job. Nothing changes.
I sent back some lightweight wide leg pants on January twenty fifth with my return request. They confirmed receiving them on February sixth. Every single month I've called to ask about my refund. Still nothing. But I keep getting assured that they'll email me when it's processed and that they're here for exceptional service. Exceptional service? I'm out of patience. I used to buy a lot from J. Peterman. Not anymore. Frankly I think they're going under.
Watch out buying here. I've ordered from them on and off for years and their sizing was always reliable. This time I got a dress for a wedding and checked their size chart. I was confident about ordering the small. It came marked as small but runs way larger than their chart shows it should. It's closer to an eight or ten. This is clearly their mistake with quality control, but they wouldn't swap it for an extra small since it was marked final sale. I get that final sale is final, but their own size chart is wrong! Michelle from customer service tried to help but management wouldn't authorize an exchange. Now I'm out a hundred plus dollars in alterations and still need another dress for the event. Good job losing a customer you had for years. Most of their stuff is made overseas anyway. I'm done.
Would give them zero stars if I could. Sent back an item back in March and I'm still waiting for my refund four months later. My bank is currently disputing the charge. Steer clear! They gave me nothing but runaround explanations about where my money is. Only order from them if you're 100% sure you won't need to return anything. Actually, just skip them altogether.
We've been ordering from them for years. This is the second time we've returned something. Both times getting our money back was a nightmare. We sent items back in March. Every time we called the story changed. Finally in May we called our credit card company. Turns out they could help us right away and issued a full credit. We're definitely not shopping with them anymore.
