What Shoppers Say About LiftMaster
LiftMaster receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 1.7 out of 5 by 19 reviewers. The primary complaints center on warranty coverage limitations (the company interprets coverage based on original purchase dates rather than when customers acquire products), product reliability issues (units failing within or shortly after warranty periods), and poor customer service experiences (long hold times, delayed refunds, slow parts delivery, and staff that seem unhelpful or disengaged). Reviewers report needing repeated service calls and having to purchase replacement parts out of pocket despite warranties, and describe intentionally delayed service fulfillment by the company.
A small minority of shoppers gave five-star ratings, though their positive feedback is not detailed in available reviews. The broader pattern suggests significant quality and service issues that have worsened in recent years according to reviewers. The company's warranty terms appear to frustrate customers most, particularly when coverage denials occur due to technicalities around purchase dates or when labor costs fall outside warranty scope despite parts being covered.

Sorted by: Most recentReally unhappy with the warranty on my LiftMaster. My new house is under a year old but they're refusing to cover anything because they're going by the purchase date of the garage opener from May 2024, not when I bought the home in March 2025. They're using the original build date instead, so they say they can't help and are only offering a discount. It's wrong to treat people this way. I could understand if the unit was old, but this thing is basically brand new.
The 8500W model from their Elite series has never worked well and it's not even two years old yet. Now it's completely dead. Called support and they said I needed a new motor, which they sent for free. When I took it apart to install the replacement, I found the travel module was also damaged. So now I have to order that part too, which means another week without a working door. I'm fixing it myself to avoid more repair bills since this isn't a simple job. This opener cost about seven hundred dollars and almost everything inside is plastic. The travel module alone is fifty bucks and it's just three plastic gears. Really think hard before buying one of these, especially since it's definitely not one of their budget models.
Our gate operator lasted about ten years before the first one failed, right after the seven year warranty ran out. The replacement unit quit in less than three years. It's been over two months now and we're still having issues. They cover the equipment and parts under warranty but not the labor. Our technician has been out nine times already and swapped out five different parts, but nothing's fixed it. When I call the manufacturer, they always say things are moving along and someone will be in touch, but I never hear from them. I spend all my time chasing them down while they remain friendly but unproductive. I'd strongly suggest looking at other options before buying their products.
Made a mistake ordering the wrong item, so I returned it. Three weeks later I called to check on my refund and got told there was some kind of glitch. A week went by with still no money back. When I finally called them, I waited on hold for over thirty minutes while they kept saying the wait would be ten minutes. I gave up and requested a callback, which obviously never happened. Dealing with this company is awful. At this rate I should just order from overseas.
The warranty with LiftMaster comes with a big caveat - their service happens whenever they feel like getting to it. They actually admitted to me that they intentionally slow down deliveries to their service department for their own benefit, which means customers wait longer for parts. They clearly don't care much about how inconvenient that is. Warranty turnaround takes several months. I won't ever buy from them again.
The quality has really gone downhill over the last several years. We keep having to call for service and never get the right part the first time, with no compensation offered. The customer service team isn't much better, offering minimal help with problems. One rep seemed like they weren't even awake during the conversation. Recently ordered a brand new unit and it showed up broken right out of the box with a light that didn't work. Now I'm stuck replacing it and I'm an hour away from the nearest service center. I'm switching to a different brand.
My LiftMaster gate had a problem while it was still covered under warranty. It's now been eight weeks and the gate still isn't working. This is completely unacceptable. The gate is only three and a half years old.
Ordered a LiftMaster Gateway and was shocked at how long it took to arrive. Ten days just to process an item they had in stock, then another five days for shipping. I don't understand why it's so complicated to box up a small item and send it out. Should take minutes, not weeks. Even worse, I'm now at the two week mark and still haven't received it. This whole experience has been really disappointing.
The website recommended the wrong batteries when I was shopping for a replacement. I sent them back and waited a full month before calling to ask about my refund. The customer service rep was unhelpful and dismissive. I asked for a manager, which took three requests. When I finally got one, this person was even worse - completely uncaring and claimed they had done everything correctly. This mistake ended up costing me over thirty dollars just to return the wrong items they sent me. I'm done with LiftMaster and won't be ordering from them or their parent company again.
Had class 7 brake rollers put in with calibration services by this company. After about four and a half years, both gearboxes failed on me. Reached out to LiftMaster but got zero response. When I checked things out, there was no oil in the gearboxes and all the bearings were shot. Can't even get replacements anymore. This is unacceptable service and I won't be using them again. Pretty sure the oil was never even checked during the calibration work.
