Morningstar Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Morningstar
Morningstar receives sharply divided feedback, with the vast majority of reviewers expressing serious dissatisfaction. The most common complaint centers on website functionality and design problems: users report that the iPhone interface is unintuitive with elements jumping around, the site frequently runs sluggish, and core features either malfunction or provide incomplete information. Several reviewers also criticize the investment recommendations as mediocre, noting a tendency to promote dividend stocks with stagnant payout histories. A smaller group of satisfied users praise Morningstar as a top-tier data provider and portfolio management platform, commending the quality of individual stock and fund reviews, continuous feature upgrades, seamless integration, and competitive pricing.
Customer service experiences vary considerably. While most negative reviews focus on technical and product issues, at least one reviewer reported a positive resolution with a recovery specialist who displayed integrity and clarity. The company's written customer service responses have also drawn notice, though opinions differ on whether they come across as appropriately professional or formulaic. The sharp divergence in ratings suggests that Morningstar may work well for certain sophisticated investors while failing to meet the needs or expectations of a larger segment of its user base.

Sorted by: Most recentI think they adjust prices based on market movements, which isn't real analysis. Their projections are too focused on short-term shifts, so they're constantly revising recommendations. A real investor like Buffett would lose money following their model. Good analysts stand by their valuations even when markets act irrational, but Morningstar rushes to change everything. When Meta dropped, they quickly downgraded it. When stocks climbed, they upgraded just as fast. Their international picks are equally bad, suggesting BABA, JD, and PDD one week, then TEMU, JD, and BABA the next. How is any investor supposed to follow advice that changes weekly?
They don't deserve even one star. I run a registered investment advisory business and we're just as frustrated as individual investors. Morningstar used to be the industry standard but not anymore. The current leadership seems more focused on pushing ESG and DEI agendas than actually serving clients. In my view, they're destroying the company from within.
Even after closing my account, they still charged my card when the subscription renewed. I requested a full refund but they declined because I couldn't access the service. I'm disputing the charge through my bank and having them blocked. The website was down constantly and full of broken links to their own pages. Not helpful at all.
My Dividend Investor subscription renewed when I didn't authorize it. Their website promises easy cancellation and refunds, but they ignore cancellation requests through email. For such an established company, this looks like a subscription trap. Don't subscribe.
My Dividend Investor subscription got renewed without my permission. They advertise that you can cancel whenever you want and get your money back, but they don't respond to cancellation emails. It's strange for such a recognizable company, but this feels like a scam. Avoid signing up for any subscription with them.
The support I've received has been unacceptable. When setting up my account, I needed to reset my password but the reset link never arrives. I've emailed their support team around ten times over three months and keep getting empty promises. I've tried filing complaints and escalating the issue with no luck. This team clearly doesn't care about helping customers, so I'm moving my business elsewhere.
I used the old software for seven years without problems until the company decided to kill it and force users to their new platform instead. They shut down the old system a month earlier than promised without warning and refused to reactivate it. If you're using their current product, watch out because they might discontinue it just as suddenly. After being loyal for so long, their complete lack of consideration was insulting.
This isn't worth what I'm paying. My account profile page never displays any information, so I have no clue when my subscription renews. They auto-renewed without notifying me and there's no cancellation option on the website. When I contacted support through their form, they never responded. The website is sluggish and their customer service is poor. I cancelled long ago, and when they finally replied to my original complaint, it was 23 months later. Completely unbelievable.
I've been a paying customer for several years and the portfolio tracking feature is actually helpful. However, I've experienced multiple problems accessing my portfolio, including an issue with the X-ray tool that stopped functioning. Support has been painfully slow and my issues remain unresolved after more than a week.
