What Shoppers Say About Prose
Prose is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with the vast majority reporting serious issues with the company's operations and customer service. While some reviewers note that the hair products themselves performed well when received, this positive is overwhelmed by widespread complaints about billing problems (including unauthorized charges and double-billing on subscriptions), unresponsive customer service, extremely long shipping delays, and orders that never arrive. Multiple shoppers report months-long waits with no updates and unsuccessful attempts to contact the company through email or other channels.
Beyond service failures, reviewers also report product performance issues including hair that became drier and coarser after use, and problems with the questionnaire system that claims to customize products for mixed hair types but only allows selection of a single hair type. The combination of operational dysfunction, unresolved billing disputes, and inability to reach customer support has led shoppers to characterize the company as unreliable and poor value for the premium pricing charged.

Sorted by: Most recentI'm still waiting for my order to arrive, so I can only comment on how the ordering process went. I made it clear I wanted to pay full price and skip the subscription, but they enrolled me in one with items that weren't even part of my original purchase. Getting them to cancel was incredibly difficult. Be careful with this company!
Haven't even received my order yet, so this is just about the ordering experience. I specifically chose to pay full price to avoid being put on a subscription, but they signed me up anyway with products I never asked for. Then canceling that subscription turned into a nightmare. Watch out before you buy!
I would give zero stars if I could. They claim to stand behind their products with their satisfaction guarantee within 30 days, but that's not what actually happens. I told them about my issues well within that window, but they refused to help. They added vitamins to my order without permission and charged me, then said it was my fault. I also asked for a different formula for the hair gel before the 30 days ended and got no response at all. They only sent a replacement pump because I mentioned it was broken. Now they're saying I can't return the vitamins since I supposedly ordered them, and I can't use the gel. Their refund promise is completely fake, and I'm reporting them to the FTC and consumer protection agencies. The skincare products are good, but I'm canceling everything else.
The subscription model this company uses feels really predatory. I'm still working through my first bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and the two other products I ordered are barely used. They kept sending me refills without any heads up, and I didn't find out until after they shipped. I had to decline the first one, and I thought I canceled before the second shipment but it's hard to find where to do that on their site. Honestly the products aren't even that great anyway.
The products themselves are really good, but everything else is a mess. Their website won't let you snooze your subscription for more than three months. Now I got a notice that they charged me and are shipping my order when I had paused it for another month. Customer service basically doesn't exist, and the subscription management tools don't work right. I've ended up with too much product now and I'm canceling.
This shampoo is terrible. I've been using it for two months and my hair loss got way worse. It started falling out in chunks, which has never happened before. The back of my head was fine at first, but now that's losing hair too.
I wanted to find a better hair care routine for my wavy hair, so I decided to give Prose a shot. I thought it would make things easier for me, but it did the opposite. My first shipment took forever to get here. They spent way too much money on fancy bottles and packaging that you don't really need. I signed up for auto-refill, but nothing about it was automatic or simple. I had another shipment scheduled for August 4th but it's now September 8th and still haven't gotten it. In the meantime, they shipped out a different order in less than a month. I canceled my subscription, but I'm still waiting for them to find and deliver my 165 dollars worth of products that they already charged me for. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with Prose!
The shampoo and conditioner were just okay despite all the hype. When I tried to cancel a different order right after purchasing it, they wouldn't let me. It's crazy that you can't cancel something you just paid for when every other company lets you do that. They act like money grabbers. If you do order from them, use a prepaid card instead of giving them your real payment info. Really frustrated with how they operate.
My order never showed up. The tracking system wasn't working and just gave me an error message whenever I tried to check on it. The package was supposed to ship but I had no idea where it actually was. My credit card got charged for it anyway, and this happened over two weeks after ordering. The tracking eventually started working and showed the package was lost in transit somewhere. At least customer service did refund me, and I haven't seen any extra charges so far. Still, I'd recommend steering clear of this place.
Skip this company completely. I ordered what was supposed to be fragrance-free conditioner, but it was full of scent that gave me an allergic reaction. When I called them about it, they basically didn't care. Plus you can't even leave reviews on their site, so you're stuck with whatever you get. The prices are super high too. Don't waste your money.
