What Shoppers Say About Tracfone Wireless Inc
Tracfone Wireless Inc (operating as SafeLink Wireless) receives sharply divided feedback, with shoppers either praising the company's mission to provide free or low-cost phone service to underserved populations or expressing frustration with operational issues. Supporters appreciate the accessibility of service for those facing financial hardship and the company's commitment to bridging gaps in connectivity. However, the majority of reviews cite significant problems: misrepresentation of device specifications (old phones marketed as new 5G models), long wait times for customer service (sometimes over an hour), difficulties with number transfers, unresolved billing issues, data service failures, and complaints about customer service communication quality. Many reviewers note a perceived decline in service quality since the company's acquisition by a major carrier.
Common pain points include inadequate staff training or language proficiency for support interactions, lengthy delays in processing benefits applications and account activations, and a sense that the company no longer prioritizes individual customer concerns. While some long-time customers acknowledge staying with the service despite recent issues, the overwhelming majority of recent reviews suggest serious operational and customer service challenges that undermine the company's mission of serving vulnerable populations.

Sorted by: Most recentThis company is exploiting vulnerable people and making money off their struggles. They participate in subsidy programs for affordable connectivity and lifeline services. The problem is they don't actually give members the plans they were approved for. Getting it corrected is extremely difficult if not impossible. People can't see their data usage or plan details, support reps keep transferring you elsewhere just to drop the call, the automated system keeps cutting in and out so you miss the menu options, callback systems don't work right and disconnect early, chat support takes twenty plus minutes to respond with a single sentence, people get told they've used all their monthly data right after activation, and the higher tier department never calls back even when they promise to. The way this company handles these government assistance programs deserves investigation.
Application took just a couple minutes to fill out and I was approved right away. The phone arrived within a week. Activation was quick, only a couple minutes. The phone performs beautifully, really exceeded my expectations. The 350 minutes bothers me a bit, but I can't really complain. It was nice that they let me use my own device too, which other companies won't do.
