What Shoppers Say About Sherwin-Williams
Sherwin-Williams receives highly polarized ratings, with shoppers either very satisfied or very dissatisfied. Positive reviewers consistently praise the quality of paint products and highlight exceptional customer service from individual store employees like Hannah, Peter, Laurel, and Joe, who are described as thorough, attentive, and genuinely helpful. However, the majority of negative reviews focus on employment-related concerns, particularly repeated cuts to retirement contributions in 2009, 2020, and 2025, with some product-related complaints about unexpected drying times and finish quality inconsistencies.
The stark division in ratings reflects two separate customer bases: retail paint buyers who generally report satisfaction with products and personalized service, and employees or job applicants voicing concerns about compensation and benefits practices. While individual store locations receive strong praise for staff performance, broader company practices appear to be a significant source of dissatisfaction among a larger portion of reviewers.

Sorted by: Most recentOrdered white parking lot paint and what showed up was yellow! Had to pay my workers $40 just for showing up, then make another trip to get the correct color. The staff said sorry but that doesn't fix the wasted time and money.
Keep getting constant spam messages from these folks. I never signed up for anything on their website. Unsubscribed and sent emails but nothing changed on their end.
Seems like a fun place to work since the staff seems way more interested in hanging out than helping customers. Went back five times because I needed a whole house worth of paint and wallpaper but eventually gave up and found another location.
The 10 year roof seal I bought started peeling after just a year. When I complained, they gave me the runaround asking how much I used, whether I cleaned the roof, if it was flat, wanting photos and samples. Never got real help or answers. Skip this brand and get Everbuild Black Jack instead, which actually works.
Really let down by Sherwin Williams paint. The quality just isn't there anymore. I grabbed 5 gallons and right away had problems. The color didn't match my sample like it should have, and the eggshell finish came out completely flat instead of what I expected. Then the semi-gloss white for my trim was equally flat and felt chalky when I touched it. My contractor wanted me to use Sherwin so I did, and I'm really disappointed with that decision.
Got some paint from Sherwin Williams a couple weeks back. Thought I'd need one gallon in my color but the painter recommended two, so I grabbed two. Three coats went on the wall and the second gallon never even got opened. The painter said to take it back for store credit. When I went to return it, they told me no exchanges or refunds allowed. I wanted that paint for another room but decided to go to Lowe's instead since I essentially lost money with this place. The cashier just pointed at a sticker on the can saying no returns, but they never mentioned this policy before I paid. It would've been nice if they explained their rules upfront instead of slapping a sticker on after the sale. My painter apparently sends all his customers to this overpriced store for some reason. Good thing Walmart actually took back my extra paint from before, or I'd be out even more money. Next time I'm telling my painter to stick with what I already have.
