I bought two wallets from Shinola and both had the same problem: all of my plastic credit cards ended up cracking at the top edge. The only card that survived was my metal American Express. It's disappointing that they don't seem to care enough to stand behind the durability of their products. I've already shared this experience with people around me and I plan to keep doing so.
I'm honestly surprised to see so many negative reviews about Shinola watches out there. I picked up my first one back around 2013 and I've been hooked ever since. Over the years I've bought 9 watches total, so yeah, I'm pretty clearly a fan. I've worked with Dave at the Washington DC store and he's fantastic. He really knows his stuff about Shinola and goes out of his way to help with anything you need. I keep coming back to shop with Dave and I'll definitely keep buying Shinola watches. Really looking forward to seeing more Detrola styles coming out. Thanks for making great products!
Their customer service team wouldn't stand behind a rubber watch band that fell apart way too soon. They basically said too bad, watch bands aren't covered. My response was, when you're charging $100 for a rubber band, people have every right to expect it to actually last.
The products themselves seem nice enough, though I haven't actually received mine yet to be sure. But wow, the customer service and delivery process have been terrible. I paid $50 for shipping, which is already pricey, but I thought it was worth it since it was a gift coming from the US. The UPS driver shows up at my door and my fiancé (who has no idea about the surprise) answers and gets told there's a 132 pound charge due. The driver says we can pay cash right then or pay online, but we don't have that kind of money sitting around. I never got a tracking number, no info from Shinola, and no way to actually pay online. I contacted UPS but they won't help without a tracking number. Tried reaching Shinola through their website contact form but got nothing, no response on social media either, and the phone line is US only. At this point I'm already out over $200 more than the watch cost and I'm not about to rack up international call charges. I get that customs fees aren't their fault, but when it's going to cost that much, there should be a clear warning on the site. Now I'm stuck waiting to see what happens.
I'm up in Canada and bought a watch and a wallet last year. Both items were nice at first, but around the six-month mark things started falling apart. The seam on the wallet gave out, so now it only holds cards on one side because the card slots were cut too tight for standard credit and debit cards. The watch battery died after just five months, and here's where it gets annoying: to keep your warranty valid, you're forced to send it to authorized dealers. In Canada there's literally only one option, which means $100 a year in shipping and battery replacement fees on an $800 watch. The strap started fading and deteriorating, so I tried to get a replacement online. There's no way to look up which specific watch you own, no serial number database, nothing. I ordered the wrong strap and they want $75 just to swap it out. The replacement strap costs $200, which is basically a quarter of the watch's price. I'd really suggest looking elsewhere for your money, especially if you're shopping from Canada.
