What Shoppers Say About sweetgreen
Sweetgreen shoppers are deeply divided. Loyal customers praise the food quality and commend the customer service team for stepping up when problems occur, with some noting they order frequently through the app. However, nearly half of all reviewers gave one-star ratings, citing serious concerns: food safety issues (hair found in salad with no refund offered), inconsistent allergy policies that discourage customers with dietary restrictions, frustration with the shift to kiosk-only ordering that removes face-to-face interaction, and difficulties with order fulfillment, delivery routing errors, and refund policies that some describe as inflexible.
The core tension appears to be between Sweetgreen's food quality and its operational and customer service inconsistencies. While some customers report responsive support, others describe being denied refunds for legitimate complaints or stuck in loops trying to resolve order issues. The new kiosk ordering system is a particular pain point for customers who valued personal interaction, and the handling of allergy requests has alienated a segment of health-conscious diners.

Sorted by: Most recentI order from them constantly, usually through their app for delivery. Their customer service team actually steps up when something goes wrong, and the food quality is really good.
Found a hair in my salad and when I brought it up, they wouldn't offer a refund or even discuss it. The whole thing felt dirty and really put me off.
Really frustrated with how they handle allergy concerns. They welcome people with allergies to come in, but then turn around and say their place isn't safe for them. Make up your mind!
I've been a Sweetgreen customer for a while now, but their new ordering setup really bothers me. Now you have to order at a kiosk in the store instead of talking to an actual employee. I miss being able to chat with someone face-to-face, and I'm not sure this system is even saving them that much time. For me, it's slower and way less enjoyable. On top of that, the dressing portions seem off - my salad today had so much dressing poured on it that I couldn't taste anything but that. The mixing wasn't even done right. Not sure if it's a machine issue or what, but it's not the experience I want. Ordered from the Tyson's location on Leesburg Pike in Virginia.
We placed an order online that somehow got routed to the wrong state location. We tried calling right away, just a minute after, to let them know not to prepare it and get our money back. The store emailed us a few minutes later saying they had a system outage, and since then we've been going back and forth with the other location. We've shown them every email and proof of what happened, but they're refusing to refund our office for the hundred and fifty dollar order. The bigger issue is that this location doesn't even have a phone to call, so there was no way to stop them from making the bowls. We've also tried reaching out to corporate about this but haven't gotten any real response. It's frustrating because we actually do business with them regularly - we just want someone to acknowledge the problem and make this right.
I ordered from Sweetgreen and after completing my purchase, the app said my salad wouldn't be ready until 1:50 PM. I immediately reached out to their customer service asking if they could deliver it instead, or if not, to please refund me. They told me the order was already being made so they couldn't issue a refund. I explained that I'm currently dealing with cancer treatment and I'm not physically able to go into the store to pick it up. I even offered a solution - they could hand it to an Uber driver outside if that made things easier. Customer service simply said no and told me to call the store directly. The problem is they couldn't give me a working phone number, and the one on their website just loops back to the same customer service line. So I was stuck with food I paid for and no way to get it, and nobody showed any understanding of my situation. It's disappointing for a company that talks about wellness and health to treat someone who's sick this way. They really need to work on treating customers with disabilities and health issues with more compassion and care.
I found melted plastic and microplastics mixed into my food. I've reached out to their customer service four different times trying to speak to someone, but it's impossible to connect with an actual person. This company clearly doesn't care about what happened to me. I won't be coming back, and I'm going to keep sharing the photos of the melted plastic I found online so others know what happened to me. I'm really upset about this. I thought they were a quality company, but this experience changed my mind completely.
The Sweetgreen location in Chicago at North and Clyborne treats customers poorly. The staff will snap at you if you're confused about the menu, and the managers are somehow even worse. They run this place like some tiny roadside barbecue shack where nobody's watching instead of a corporate chain with standards. Seems like they think they can get away with whatever they want, and since there's no way to actually reach customer service, maybe they can.
I really wish I had a positive experience to share, but my time with Sweetgreen was pretty disappointing from start to finish. I placed a four hundred dollar order online for Tuesday, but their website kept reverting back to Monday without me noticing, so my order went through for the wrong day. When I realized the mistake, I jumped into a chat with customer service to get the date changed. They couldn't do it and told me I'd have to cancel and start over. I did that, but then the site wouldn't let me submit a new order. Still chatting with support, they told me to just go to the store and order in person. I drove over, got in line, and asked to place an order for the next day. What the employee said absolutely stunned me. They said they didn't have paper and pen to write down an order. I was shocked. I explained that I was sent there because they also don't answer the phone. I asked for the manager, explained everything again, and he said he'd try the website himself. I thought, finally, someone who can actually help. But then he said...
