What Shoppers Say About optavia.com
Optavia is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 23 shoppers, with a majority expressing significant frustration with the service. The most common complaint centers on customer support, with shoppers reporting unresponsive staff, order fulfillment errors (receiving items they explicitly did not request), difficulty processing returns, and long wait times for resolution. Additional concerns include aggressive upselling tactics from coaches early in the program, product quality issues (particularly with snack bars), and the temporary nature of weight loss results, with shoppers reporting rapid weight regain after completing the program. A smaller group of satisfied customers reports successful weight loss outcomes.
A few shoppers mention positive experiences with the program's effectiveness for weight loss, though even these gains came with challenges. However, the overwhelming pattern in reviews reflects dissatisfaction with order accuracy, refund processing delays, and the overall customer experience. The company's meal-based approach has also drawn criticism from those seeking more customization options or those with specific dietary restrictions or eating disorder concerns.

Sorted by: Most recentPlaced an order for magnesium pills back in January and it's now March. I've requested a refund multiple times and keep getting silence. Pretty sure I got scammed out of fifty nine dollars. Steer clear if you don't want major disappointment.
Absolutely horrible customer support. After my first delivery I realized this program specifically warns against using it if you have eating disorder issues, so I reached out about returning my unopened package. They bounced me around between their app and website constantly and at one point claimed I'd already filed a return request online, which never happened. I asked for a shipping label over and over again but finally got fed up and quit trying. Suddenly both the app and website stopped functioning for me. They say returns are fine but the actual process of getting a label and shipping it back is basically impossible. I'm out over four hundred bucks. I would never recommend this company to anybody I know.
AWFUL customer service experience. First time ordering and needed to swap items due to food allergies. You know what happened? They sent me everything I specifically said NOT to order. After wasting 2 hours texting back and forth with their support team, I had to place a brand new order and pay again for what I actually needed. Meanwhile I'm stuck waiting for a refund on the stuff I can't use, and now I have to shell out money to ship back products I never wanted in the first place. Totally unacceptable.
Decided to give it a shot after seeing a friend on Facebook rave about it. I thought it'd work like those other programs where meals are provided and you just add your own produce and fruits. Most meals were forgettable but those snack bars? Even worse. I can stomach maybe three of them. What really frustrated me was being unable to pick and choose right from the start. My box came back heavy on sugary items. Like eighty percent sweets. Who eats that? I got most replaced but the hassle was ridiculous. Plus I had to hand over my credit card number to my coach which made me uncomfortable, even though I trust her. Never heard of such a thing before. First week I was constantly hungry with headaches. Got told I'd need to buy extra stuff like electrolytes because of the low sodium levels. The lean and green meals aren't explained clearly unless you follow their specific recipes, and honestly the portion sizes seem off. Lost four pounds week one but week two I hit a wall. Once this shipment runs out I'm done. I can ask an AI to calculate macros and buy actual food from the grocery store instead.
If there was a way to give a lower rating than one star, I absolutely would. My assigned coach was brand new to the company. I signed up for the two week starter program. During the very first week, my coach started pushing me to make another purchase. But I hadn't even started using the first batch of products yet! After just two days I asked my coach to put the next order on hold until I was actually ready. They confirmed they'd do it. Next morning I wake up to find my credit card charged $391. I contacted my coach asking why and got told they weren't sure. Apparently they thought my wife and I had worked something out on our own, which made no sense. My coach totally dropped the ball. I had to cancel my actual bank card to stop them from charging me more. Had to constantly push my coach and another coach to get anything done. Neither one seemed to read their text messages. The order I never requested showed up with 75 percent stuff I would never eat. I didn't even get the box initially because they shipped it to the wrong address. Everything about this went wrong. I returned all of it.
Tried this roughly three years back. I lost a significant amount of weight but it was an unpleasant process. Being constantly deprived meant I regained most of it afterward. So I did it again. Lost less the second time and it came right back just as fast. The core issue is you're basically eating soy based products all day, which caused me constant bathroom issues, and there's zero guidance for what happens after the program ends. They actively discourage any exercise too. Not a smart long term approach. Plus you're spending a ton of money for pouches of soy. Currently doing the Mayo Clinic approach. Eating real nutritious meals I pick up from my local grocery store. They give you a weekly grocery list and recipes that are nutritionally complete. Once this is done I can see eating basically the same way with maybe slightly bigger portions and a treat here and there. My spouse even joins me for dinner meals since it's actual good food. They also promote exercise from day one. That's the smarter approach.
Absolutely the worst customer service I've experienced. Needed to pause an upcoming shipment and reschedule my delivery because I was down with a nasty virus for over thirty days. Then I got notified my order was already heading my way. Called customer service and waited on hold for half an hour. Decided to request a callback instead. An hour passes and a representative named Nicole rings back but I can barely understand her due to her accent. I explained my situation and the call just dropped. Never heard from her again. Left another callback request. Still nothing.
Major regrets trying this diet plan. My friends and I both had terrible experiences. The meal packs are ridiculously overpriced and packed with processed ingredients that are honestly unhealthy. The super low calorie approach left me feeling lightheaded and exhausted during workouts. When I mentioned this to my health coach, they blamed me and said I just wasn't being strict enough. I was genuinely hungry and dropping a pound daily. Once I stopped, all the weight came right back plus extra. I picked up some really bad eating habits from it. Plus all the processed stuff messed with my system and I developed immune problems. My hair started thinning and I got thyroid problems. Spent almost a full year on this thing and deeply regret it. Save your money and skip this.
Dropped 109 pounds in 10 months and I'm thrilled with the results. Struggled with my weight since childhood but Optavia totally changed things for me. I love the program, my coach has been fantastic, and the community support is incredible. The educational materials are top notch too. Most people who bash Optavia only did part of it, not the whole thing. They tried just the meals but didn't engage with the rest of the program. This is genuinely a complete lifestyle transformation, not just about food. It taught me that I'm in control of my own life. A lot of people stay trapped in a victim mentality and don't want to move past it, but I get that since I lived that way most of my life too. Breaking out of it is really hard. Everyone's got their own path and I respect that, but I had to share what worked for me.
Sixteen months in on this program and it's been okay overall. But they made a terrible decision with their latest app update. Previously customers had full control over next orders. A couple clicks on the app and you could choose your snack selections, adjust delivery dates, whatever. Super convenient. Now with the new version you have zero control. Need to call or chat to make changes. It's inconvenient since you're waiting on hold. Something that used to take sixty seconds now takes ten to twenty minutes depending on wait times and takes decision making away from us. I think the redesign is intentional. They want people to miss their shipping dates so auto renewal just hits and charges the card without them noticing. The old way let you push your next delivery date out if you still had plenty of inventory left. Being forced to call or chat to manage an order takes away that power from consumers. After spending sixteen months here I cancelled because of this change.
