What Shoppers Say About Sportsman’s Warehouse, Inc.
Sportsman's Warehouse receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 21 reviews averaging 1.2 out of 5. The most consistent complaints center on poor inventory management (items listed as in-stock that are actually backordered or out of stock), inflexible return policies that require customers to return in-store purchases to the specific location where they were bought, and unresponsive customer service that fails to provide solutions when problems arise. Shoppers also report frustration with account access issues, unexplained purchase denials, and data privacy concerns regarding unsolicited information retention.
A small minority of reviews mention that in-store service itself was adequate, and a few shoppers report positive experiences, but these are vastly outnumbered by detailed accounts of operational failures. The core issues appear to be systemic rather than isolated incidents: inventory accuracy problems, restrictive policies that disadvantage customers, and customer service teams that cannot or will not resolve issues effectively. Most negative reviewers indicate they will not return or recommend the company to others.

Sorted by: Most recentJust a warning to potential shoppers: if you buy something in a physical store while visiting an area and later discover it's defective, your only option is to go back to that exact store to return it. Online returns aren't possible for in-store purchases. Good luck if that location is hours away from home like it was for me. Pretty frustrating situation to be in.
This company has serious problems that can't be fixed. My son went to pick up a firearm he'd ordered, and the manager told him he couldn't complete the purchase because our last name and address matched mine. Apparently because I answered a question wrong on their background questionnaire, I'm now flagged in their system, and my adult son gets denied service too. That's completely unreasonable. Shop somewhere else if you want better treatment and fair policies. The manager at that location needs to be fired.
Made an online purchase with in-store pickup scheduled for about a week and a half out. The day before my pickup date, I got an email saying the product was out of stock. When I called customer service, they transferred me through seven different representatives and not a single one offered any kind of solution. I spend thousands of dollars yearly on items they sell, and this could have been a great customer retention opportunity, but they completely missed it. I'm moving my business elsewhere. Update: I appreciate what's meant to be an apology, but being transferred to an eighth customer service rep won't help. I really wanted to give this company my money and was excited about getting a great deal on a firearm. You had the chance to turn this problem into loyalty, but instead you've just shown me you don't care about keeping my business.
The in-store service was fine, but then I got an email from them saying they'd keep our information on file for future purchases. We never agreed to this and didn't provide any details for them to have. It feels invasive and unsettling to be tracked like this without consent. I won't be going back to shop there.
My account got blocked from accessing their website and I have absolutely no idea why. I'm located outside the US, so if anyone from the company reads this, I'd really appreciate an email address I can use to get this sorted out.
Found an item online that showed in-stock status with next day pickup available. I paid for it and drove into town the following day only to be told it was actually on backorder and wouldn't arrive for a week. Why show something as available if it's not? They canceled my order for the refund, which they said would take 7 to 10 days. Yet somehow the money came straight out of my account immediately. Don't think I'll be shopping with Sportsman's going forward.
Bought my son a pair of soccer cleats in May and they fell apart at the stitching just three weeks later. I brought them back and was told he must be playing on gravel. I explained that's not the case at all, he plays at school and in organized league games on regular fields. They still refused to help despite the shoes being obviously poor quality and literally splitting apart. I buy three to four pairs of soccer boots from them every year for my three sons and this has never happened before on the exact same fields where my kids have always played. I've found another option through a membership discount program and will be buying my cleats there instead. What really bothered me was they said they'd get back to me in a couple days and it's been well over a week with no contact. Really disappointed in how this was handled.
Purchased soccer cleats for my son in May and within three weeks the stitching started splitting apart. I took them back to the store and got told my son must play on gravel. I corrected them and said he only plays on school and club fields, which hasn't changed. They still refused to help even though the quality was clearly subpar and the shoe was literally coming apart at the seams. As someone who gets 3-4 pairs of soccer boots from them annually for my three boys, this has never happened before on the same playing surfaces. I found another retailer through a membership discount program, so I'll be purchasing there instead. To make matters worse, they said they'd contact me within 2 to 3 days and it's been over a week with no follow up. Really let down by how they handled this.
Bought into their promotion where you pay full price for one pair of socks and get the next pair for a dollar. I ordered eight pairs of Darn Tough socks under this deal. They sent me eight pairs but only three were correct. I had to return the wrong ones, document everything with photos, and so on. When I checked my credit card, they refunded the five incorrect pairs but never sent me replacements or the discounted pairs I originally ordered. Essentially I ended up paying regular price for just the three pairs they got right. Their customer service didn't help and acted like they were out of stock on the right items. Not a good experience at all.
Ordered a firearm and waited about three weeks for it to arrive. When I went to pick it up with my driver's license and permit, I filled out the required paperwork. The employee processing my information made a data entry mistake, marking the wrong box in their system. I then had to wait almost 45 minutes, which was way longer than the normal 10 minutes I've experienced there. The manager apologized and said the employee had input the information incorrectly and that it couldn't be canceled and corrected. Eventually they canceled my order anyway, claiming in an email that I had changed my mind. I was told to wait five to seven days for a refund. This whole situation was ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this place.
