Hodges Marine Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Hodges Marine
Hodges Marine shoppers are deeply divided. Satisfied customers praise fast shipping on small orders, competitive pricing on hard-to-find marine parts, and responsive customer service when issues arise. Several long-term customers report loyalty spanning over a decade. However, negative reviews highlight serious concerns: a restrictive return policy with high return shipping costs, unexplained order cancellations, inaccurate product links on the website, and poor customer service responsiveness during disputes. The combination of difficult returns and order fulfillment problems creates significant friction for customers who need to resolve issues.
The store's inconsistent performance appears tied to the nature of the transaction. Quick purchases of readily available items tend to result in positive experiences, while complex situations involving returns or order problems frequently lead to frustration. Shoppers considering Hodges Marine should be aware of the return policy limitations before making larger purchases.

Sorted by: Most recentMy orders have only been a couple of items so far, but both arrived within a couple of days. The pricing is solid and the service has been great.
The return policy here is terrible, shipping costs are among the highest you'll find anywhere, and the product links on their site are often inaccurate. It's a bad combination if you end up needing to return something. Save yourself the headache and shop at competitors like West Marine who actually handle returns properly and cover return shipping. I ended up losing over $180 on a $349 part.
I still give Hodges Marine five stars and have been a loyal customer for about a dozen years now. That said, I've noticed their business approach has shifted over time. They used to be known for having the absolute best prices, but these days they're pretty much in line with everyone else on pricing. Nothing wrong with that, just a change from what they used to offer.
They cancelled my last four orders without any real explanation. When I called to find out what happened, they couldn't give me a reason and just left me on hold.
We had a rough situation when the macerator pump on our motorhome's sewage system stopped working. The pump was over a decade old and finding parts wasn't easy since it's not manufactured anymore. A quick search showed Hodges had the best deal available. I could have ordered from Amazon and gotten it in two days, but it would have cost a hundred bucks more. Since I needed to use a gravity dump anyway, waiting a few extra days wasn't a big deal. It shipped the same day we ordered it, though snow in the Northeast caused some delays. The pricing was fair, shipping was free, and the product quality was solid. Hard to complain about that.
My delivery got mixed up by UPS when the packages got switched on their loading dock. I reached out to Hodges Marine and they jumped right on it with UPS, figured out what happened, and got me the correct item shipped out fast. The whole thing was taken care of in less than a day.
I left a negative review a while back over something I don't even clearly remember now. Yesterday I placed an order and this morning I got a cancellation email with zero explanation. Called them up and found out they cancelled it because of that old bad review I'd written. So instead of actually improving when they mess up, they just block you from doing business with them. That's pretty messed up.
I'm a tax exempt business and requested a refund for the sales tax that was charged to my account. Hodges Marine told me that sales tax couldn't be refunded as a separate line item and that I'd need to call them to place a completely new order without the tax, then get a refund on the original one. Since I don't need anything else right now, I found this response pretty frustrating. Why require me to buy something else just to get the tax refunded?
After spending seven thousand dollars with them over two months, the mounting bracket for a Furuno fish finder didn't make it into my package. They've stopped responding to my emails and I've noticed my reviews keep getting deleted after they're posted. I can't even use the twelve hundred dollar fish finder without that bracket. The after-sales support has been pretty disappointing.
