What Shoppers Say About Spalding
Spalding is rated 1.9 out of 5 by 13 shoppers, with reviews showing a deeply divided customer base. A small group of shoppers praise the value, quality of certain products, and friendly service. However, the majority of reviewers report serious quality control issues including defective products arriving damaged or unassembled, and they express frustration with customer service that they describe as unresponsive, dismissive, and unwilling to escalate concerns to supervisors.
Recurring complaints center on assembly problems with basketball hoops that go unresolved for months, product defects such as balls arriving unglued, and a returns process that shoppers say is prohibitively expensive due to shipping costs and restocking fees. Several reviewers report being stuck in prolonged disputes with customer support and cite difficulty reaching supervisors or receiving timely responses to follow-up emails. These service and quality issues appear to be the primary drivers of the low overall rating.

Sorted by: Most recentGreat value for the money here. The chicken nuggets are really good, staff is super friendly, and the burgers are fabulous. The 5 dollar bundle with burger, nuggets, fries and a drink is a solid deal. Plus the vanilla shakes and ice cream are lovely. Keep up the good work and keep growing!
I'd give them lower if I could. I've had a brand new portable basketball hoop for over a month and the pole just won't assemble. The instructions specifically say to call if you have trouble putting it together, which tells me they know there's a problem. But their response has been to keep asking me to wait another month. I bought it in April and they first said 5 days, then 10 days, then end of the month. They kept hanging up on my calls and never responded to my emails. My summer's practically over now and my grandson still can't use it.
The ball came unglued right out of the box with a visible gap in the seam. They really need to improve their quality control process.
I've been getting the runaround from their customer service team for weeks now. I've asked multiple times to speak with a supervisor and they refuse. I even filed a complaint with the BBB, but their response didn't address most of my concerns. I've sent numerous follow-up emails over the past week with no replies. They claimed I hung up on a representative, but what actually happened was they left me on hold for 15 minutes without warning. When I asked for a supervisor callback, I ended up disconnecting the call. Spalding won't take responsibility for any of this. My goal broke while I was assembling it after following their rep's instructions. The customer service has been unhelpful from the start. Initially they said replacement poles would arrive within 30 days, but later that changed to June, and then another rep told me poles weren't available at all. The three options they offered were a refund that would take 8 to 12 weeks, a replacement goal with a smaller backboard, or something else I didn't finish hearing about.
During my stay from March 26 to March 27, I was extremely disappointed with the experience. I had reserved a room with one bed for two adults, but they put me in a family room instead. The entire place smelled terrible, so I had to keep the windows open the whole time. On top of that, there wasn't even a trash can in the room. Because of these issues and misleading accommodations, I'm requesting a complete refund. This wasn't what I signed up for and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Terrible customer service experience. Don't bother ordering rim or hoop replacement parts from their site because if anything goes wrong, you'll be paying out of pocket. They make you cover shipping costs, then tack on a 15 percent restocking fee, so a return ends up costing more than what the item was worth in the first place. Plus the customer service rep couldn't even answer basic questions about the rim, sizing, or what 'standard' meant.
Good ball with solid quality and well-made hoops. Only downside is that dust likes to collect on the ball surface.
Ordered an Acrylic basketball hoop that arrived damaged. When I contacted Spalding about it, they offered a cheaper polycarbonate backboard as a replacement instead, claiming the Acrylic version was being discontinued and out of stock. No partial refund was offered, so I ended up with a $200 product when I paid $400. To make matters worse, I went back to the store and they opened two additional units to find me an undamaged one, but both had separated frames. I'm done with Spalding products. Their quality and customer service are both disappointing, and I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
Update: Spalding eventually did respond and sent me a replacement bag, so that's been resolved. However, I'm still confused about their warranty and support system for bags, which seems to be handled by an outside company. The original problem was that this bag tore at a seam right away. Looking at it, the stitching was clearly misaligned, which caused the tear. But the bigger issue is that Spalding's customer support is really disappointing. After submitting an online request with photos, I got the same generic response multiple times: a phone number to call with no actual help. When I kept replying asking for real assistance, they eventually stopped responding to me at all. I even threatened to post about this experience on Google, Amazon, and every other review site I could find. I'm a big fan of their bats, but this whole situation was frustrating.
Bought a Beast basketball system 8 months ago. Even with a sand-filled base, a strong wind knocked it over and destroyed the backboard. I can get a replacement backboard, but some parts needed for installation that can't be salvaged from the damaged system aren't in stock. For a product over $2000 that broke in less than a year, their only real solution is to just buy another one. That's absolutely unacceptable.
