What Shoppers Say About Pantone
Pantone.com is rated 1.3 out of 5 by 24 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. Reviewers report persistent problems across multiple areas: website functionality issues including difficult password recovery, account management failures, and poor navigation; inadequate customer service characterized by unresponsive phone lines, unhelpful support staff, and staff who have reportedly hung up on customers; order fulfillment problems including lost packages with unclear responsibility resolution; and misleading product offerings, particularly Pantone Connect, which advertises free access but requires paid subscriptions for core functionality. Billing practices have also drawn criticism, with customers reporting unexpected charges after canceling trials and duplicate account creation.
While a small percentage of reviewers gave positive ratings, the overwhelming consensus is deeply negative. Common frustrations include software tools that are difficult to use, color display accuracy concerns, and unresponsive support channels. Professionals in design fields have expressed particular frustration with the service, and multiple reviewers have suggested they would avoid the company entirely or seek alternative solutions.

Sorted by: Most recentAs someone who designs professionally, I have to say I really can't stand Pantone.
This website is absolutely horrible, clearly designed to make shopping as difficult as possible. Lost my password and had no other way to complete my purchase. I phoned up customer service and they couldn't even locate my account in their messy database, then transferred me to a sales person who hung up on me. I absolutely hate this site.
My experience ordering directly from Pantone was really bad. I bought a Neon & Pastels book straight from their website and the shipping company lost it. Getting customer service on the phone was basically impossible, so I emailed them. They told me it was my job to contact the carrier, which is wrong since sellers are responsible for packages until delivery. After that, getting updates from them was like pulling teeth, they were incredibly slow and I had to keep pushing them for information. A month after ordering they finally gave me my money back after dragging their feet the whole time. If you need Pantone books, buy them somewhere that stocks them in inventory instead of dealing with this company directly.
Stay away from Pantone Connect. They advertise it as a free way to try out Pantone inside Photoshop and Illustrator but that's misleading. Picking and using any color requires paying for a subscription. The real problem is it doesn't work right. Their support team is useless. Skip this entirely.
Should be able to give zero stars. Now they want money for this? Are you kidding? The colors don't even show up accurately on the screen compared to the physical color books anyway. Every app and add-on is painfully frustrating to use. This whole experience makes me want to scream. If anyone wants to start a class action lawsuit against Pantone, I'm interested.
My story mirrors what a bunch of other people have dealt with. Set up a free trial, then deleted my account thinking I was done. Turns out they still billed me the yearly eighty-nine dollars ninety-nine cents. Didn't realize it until a year went by and they charged me again. Found out they'd actually made two separate accounts for me without asking, so I was being billed twice. Reached out multiple times and got nothing back.
Watch out. This was the absolute worst experience. I tried a free trial and realized it wasn't for me, so I deleted my account the same day. Somehow even though my account got deleted, they kept it marked as active since I didn't manually cancel the subscription. How does that even happen? They ended up charging me eighty-nine ninety-nine two times and only gave back one charge. Really shady and dishonest company. Getting someone on the phone was nearly impossible, I think I got through once out of five tries. I tried their chat function on the site, which is apparently the only way to report unauthorized charges, and the agent was combative, hostile, and straight up said they wouldn't refund the second charge. I asked for her manager and she took my info and said someone would call me when they got back. Still waiting. Be really careful here.
They claim to stand behind their products but that's completely false. I got the Pantone Capsure device and it doesn't perform like their website says. Since I only opened the packaging to test it out, I wanted to return it because it wasn't matching colors correctly. Their support told me I couldn't return it because the original packaging had been opened. This deserves zero stars. Their customer service is terrible and I'm telling everyone in my screen printing circles about my bad experience.
The platform is extremely basic and doesn't even work properly, plus their after-sales support is nonexistent when you have problems. I can't believe they even sell this, I'm switching to a different color management solution.
It's highway robbery and pure greed with double dipping. Pantone should be paying us InDesign users for featuring their colors on our projects since we help them sell more ink to our printers. A lot of people like me only spec their colors a handful of times yearly but we're forced to pay their crazy rates. I'd put them right there with those pharmaceutical companies squeezing every penny out of us because they know we're stuck. The Pantone Connect plugin is buggy too. Someone really needs to create a solid alternative because I would jump on it immediately and never touch Pantone again.
