What Shoppers Say About Cornwall Hideaways UK
Cornwall Hideaways UK has a sharply divided customer base. Nearly half of shoppers (46 percent) rate the service five stars, praising the attentive staff, especially team member Jade, clean and well-appointed properties, convenient locations near attractions and amenities, and strong customer service. Repeat customers report booking again. However, 38 percent of reviewers give one star, citing serious maintenance and cleanliness issues including mold, damp bedding, filthy patios, and inadequate facilities. These dissatisfied guests report that complaints go unresolved and that the company relies on legal technicalities rather than fixing problems.
The remaining reviews are scattered at two and four stars. Lower-rated feedback highlights incomplete property setup, such as missing basic kitchen supplies, lack of towel hooks, and unclear guidance on waste disposal. The stark contrast between glowing reviews mentioning specific properties like Northcliffe in Port Isaac and Widgeon Watch in Lelant versus scathing complaints about neglect and mold suggests significant inconsistency in property condition and management across the portfolio.

Sorted by: Most recentThis company is awful and honestly bad for your wellbeing. Seriously, look somewhere else. A business like this shouldn't be operating. They rent out properties that are completely neglected and unsuitable for actually living in. When you complain, they hide behind legal loopholes instead of fixing anything. We booked a place in Lelant and it was falling apart with real safety hazards. The concrete slabs they call a driveway were cracked all over, creating genuine danger for vehicles and anyone walking on them. The house was disgusting. I don't understand why there's a 6 hour gap between checkout and the next check-in when it seems like zero maintenance happens in that time. When I contacted them about our concerns, it took two weeks to hear back. Then they said they don't have time slots available for the necessary repairs while still charging 1200 weekly. They actually expect guests to let maintenance people in during your stay to fix things. That shouldn't be your responsibility as a guest. I can't even imagine...
This was my second time booking with Cornwall Hideaways and it was fantastic. Jade and the whole crew gave me outstanding service and really took care of everything. I'm coming back to book with them again for sure. Northcliffe in Port Issac is perfectly located with incredible views overlooking the harbor, plus there's live music in the village and tons of great restaurants nearby.
I can't say enough good things about Cornwall Hideaways! Our break there was absolutely fantastic. Their team was super accommodating and attentive, making sure we had everything we wanted. Going forward I'm only booking trips through them. The customer service was perfect, the house was immaculate and nothing was ever a problem. Thank you so much!
This place was filthy and in terrible condition. The walls were wet with mold growth, and I had to get maintenance to clean them and swap out all the bedding because everything was damp. The patio was absolutely disgusting, so we couldn't even use the barbecue. It wasn't quiet at all - we got woken up constantly by deliveries from the local pub and store. There was no access to the garage for storage or drying things. The carpets were gross and falling apart. Nobody thought to provide oven mitts. The kitchen reeked of dog urine. The freezer was broken and needed defrosting badly. Everything needed a thorough deep cleaning. The fridge was gross too. This place is nothing like what they advertised. It needs major work done throughout. I've stayed in plenty of cottages around Cornwall over 30 years, and honestly this is the worst one yet. This company should shut down operations. They misrepresented everything completely. I'm disgusted.
We stayed at one of their Portreath cottages and found it pretty basic overall. They didn't stock basics like salt or condiments. There was only one tiny mirror in the whole place, tucked in the bathroom. Nobody told us about trash disposal and we had to ask locals what to do with our rubbish. There weren't any hooks for hanging towels or robes. The bed linens felt cheap and the mattresses weren't much better. What really sucked was having construction workers right outside the back bedroom at eye level with no warning whatsoever, which was loud during the day and awkward if we wanted privacy. The TV setup was weird too since without streaming apps you'd have nothing to watch, and you'd think they'd at least have standard broadcast channels available. The good news is the cottage itself was clean and situated perfectly for enjoying nature walks, plus parking worked great on this quiet road. That said, it didn't justify what we paid and we won't be back.
Widgeon Watch in Lelant was wonderful. We had everything we needed and parking was a huge bonus since it's so hard to find near St Ives. The welcome gift was a nice touch. The short walk to the train station for a scenic trip to St Ives is fantastic, and the old forge bistro nearby serves incredibly delicious food. Such a great property with the comfiest bed I've ever experienced. The staff member Harriet has been amazing helping me try to figure out what mattress it was so I can get one for home. We're definitely coming back!
2 Silvershell View in Port Isaac has an incredible location with unreal views, but the inside is another story. It's filthy and desperately needs proper maintenance. The carpets were rank with stains and covered in previous guests' dog hair. The walls needed repainting badly because they were covered with marks, scratches and splashes everywhere. The patio furniture outside was just as bad, rusty and rotting in spots. When we arrived the cleaners showed up right after us, so we stepped back and let them work since we got there early. Four cleaners total, though they were only there about 20 minutes. We found out why pretty fast. The carpets didn't even look vacuumed, old chip bags and receipts were stuck under furniture when we tried to get something, there were spiderwebs throughout and the whole place smelled stale and like it hadn't been properly cleaned. The decor felt stuck in the past. It's disappointing the owners are charging these rates when they know what condition it's in. The harbor view from the deck is stunning but that's seriously all it has going for it. Better options are definitely out there for comparable pricing. After reaching out to the letting agents we received...
I just got back from a week at Bridge Cottage in Devoran and I'm really let down. The agents didn't seem to care much, possibly because the owners are selling, but that's no excuse. Cornish Hideaways took my money and didn't address the problems. The place felt shabby. Common areas had dirty fingerprints everywhere despite their COVID cleaning promise. The TV room felt damp. Both bathrooms had issues, the shower was clogged, the toilet took forever to fill, and one tap wouldn't turn off. The plumber couldn't fix the plumbing during our visit and even the maintenance guy acknowledged the property wasn't up to standards. He couldn't bring fresh dishes but did unclog the shower after fishing out a gross 6 inch hairball. The dishes they provided were rough shape: 5 chipped dinner plates, 5 chipped bowls, 4 chipped side plates, a badly cracked rectangular platter, 2 small cracked bowls, and 3 chipped mugs. I should have received compensation for how substandard everything was. I won't use this company again.
Magpie Cottage in St Teath is a nicely appointed home positioned at a busy intersection near Port Gaverne. The garden is generous but doesn't offer much seclusion. One thing that disappointed us was how they described the welcome hamper as comprehensive when it really just contained tea, coffee, biscuits and some fudge. We were let down by that. They've since updated their marketing to be more accurate. The cottage could really use instruction manuals for the different appliances and a decent bread knife.
