What Shoppers Say About Applian Technologies
Applian Technologies is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 16 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. The primary complaints center on the company's shift from permanent licenses to time-limited subscription and renewal models, often without clear communication to existing customers. Shoppers report that licenses expire without warning, software reverts to trial or demo mode when subscriptions lapse, and customer support becomes unresponsive when customers request refunds or clarification. Additional frustrations include a website outage that prevented license validation and forced customers into demo mode despite having paid for access. A small minority of reviewers (19 percent) rate the company positively, though their specific feedback is not detailed in recent submissions.
The core issue driving negative sentiment is what customers perceive as deceptive licensing practices: original perpetual licenses being converted to subscription models without explicit notice, unclear expiration terms on purchases, and aggressive upgrade prompts. Long-term customers who have purchased from the company for years express particular frustration at having to repeatedly pay for renewals or face loss of functionality. The lack of responsive customer service when disputes arise compounds customer dissatisfaction. Shoppers consistently advise others to avoid the company entirely.

Sorted by: Most recentAvoid Applian Technologies completely. Their Replay Music service converted my lifetime license to a subscription model without any notice. The updated software doesn't function properly on any of my computers. When I tried to get help, customer support was unresponsive at first and then stopped communicating entirely after I asked for my money back. The company seems content to wait until I give up rather than actually fix their broken product. This feels like a potential scam to me. Don't waste your time or money with this company.
As of mid-December, the applian website is offline and can't validate your license. This means anything you purchased or subscribed to only functions in demo mode. First they forced us to convert our permanent purchase into a subscription when we pushed back. Now they let their server crash and won't let us use the product we already paid for? This is unacceptable.
The 12 month license model is not working for me. Over time software becomes outdated and users should upgrade at their own pace. Forcing everyone into a subscription approach is the wrong direction. I should mention that I've been buying from these folks since the Jaksta era. I won't be purchasing their subscription-based products. Good thing I kept backups of the older Jaksta and Applian versions from years ago because those still work fine without requiring online verification.
I got Replay Music back in 2017 and then purchased an upgrade in early 2024. I don't use it very often, so I was shocked when I opened it recently and found it running in trial mode. According to Applian, my license had expired, but nothing in my original purchase paperwork mentioned anything about time limits. It's also strange that they haven't updated their website to announce the shift to a subscription model.
Stay away from this company at all costs. I purchased a license years back, and when I logged in last year, they demanded an upgrade. Like a fool, I paid for it. Then last week I tried using the software again and got hit with another upgrade requirement. I sent them an email saying I didn't want new features, just the basic version I'd already paid for twice. They responded by directing me to their upgrade deals for existing customers and then ghosted me completely. The software I've paid for twice sits unusable. This is frustrating.
Like everyone else leaving negative reviews, I'm upset about how Applian handles license expiration. When I first started using their products, nobody told me the license would expire and I'd have to pay again. It worked well though, so I kept paying over the years. When I bought their 2024 versions, a tab started popping up in my browser advertising NetOptimizer, and my security software has flagged that URL as risky. This happens every single time I run Replay Media Catcher 2024. That's something you'd expect from free software, not something you paid for. Since I mainly use Replay Media Catcher from their whole package, I'm not renewing. I'll be switching to Video DownloadHelper, which is free and available on Firefox.
Applian hides the fact that their software is subscription based. After 12 months the program switches to trial mode, which means it stops working. The company doesn't advertise this anywhere on their website. You get the impression the software will work forever on your computer, but that's false. I contacted them multiple times and only got told I need to buy a new license. When I asked where they explain the software goes into trial mode after a year, they gave me the same response over and over. Don't support this company. They're being dishonest. Until Applian puts clear information on their website saying customers need to pay for a new license every single year, I'll keep posting about this on consumer review sites.
Back in March of 2022 I upgraded my Replay Capture Suite from Applian Technologies. I've been using their stuff for a long time and really like the software quality. Then exactly one year later my registration code stopped working and the whole program became unusable. When I made the purchase, there was zero mention of an expiration date. Previous versions never did this. I have an older computer that runs older versions of the Capture Suite just fine. There's no good reason to upgrade. What I have works perfectly and would keep working forever if I don't change my system. I reached out to customer service about this issue and they offered me 25% off to buy the software again, even though I already paid for it once. I pushed back a second time but got ignored. I'm shocked by how greedy and dishonest this company has become. In earlier years I had only positive experiences with them, but something has gone very wrong. It's unfortunate to watch a company that used to be solid throw away their integrity.
Applian's products deliver real value for the price. I've gotten fantastic customer support every time I needed it.
Several years ago I bought the Replay Media Catcher suite. Then I was talked into buying licenses for newer versions. Ended up paying for versions 7, 8, and 9 even when I didn't actually need them. Last month I wanted to use version 9, which I had already paid for, but the software refused to run because they wanted me to buy version 10. Since I purchased versions 7, 8, and 9 with no expiration date, I sent multiple messages and emails to their support team asking about this. They never replied. This is a ripoff. I'd tell anyone thinking about buying from applian to reconsider, because you'll end up paying forever.
