What Shoppers Say About G.H. Bass & Co.
G.H. Bass and Co. receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with a 1.5 rating based on 24 reviews. The most frequently cited issues include severe quality degradation compared to the brand's historical reputation, with reviewers reporting leather separation and premature deterioration in boots. Sizing accuracy is a major problem, with customers finding sizing charts unreliable and needing to exchange items multiple times. Customer service complaints are widespread, including long shipping delays without updates, contradictory information from representatives, rude treatment, and refusal to assist with fraud cases. Final sale policies prevent refunds on defective or ill-fitting items.
A small minority of shoppers express satisfaction with G.H. Bass products, but positive feedback is sparse. The dominant theme across reviews is that the company's quality and customer service standards have declined significantly, leading many customers to feel the brand no longer justifies its prices. Issues with order fulfillment, lack of transparency about backorders, and payment problems create frustration among buyers who expected better service from an established footwear company.

Sorted by: Most recentQuality Comparison Tells the Story. I bought Sorell 12-inch hunting boots back in 1974 and still wear them about 20 times each year. In 2004, I got a pair of Bass 10-inch hunting boots. I only wore them maybe 10 times, mostly in snowy conditions. When I loaned them to my son-in-law for a hunting trip with me, the leather upper completely separated from the rubber sole. Turns out the rubber had dry rotted into complete junk. What a disappointment.
WARNING - Terrible Size Accuracy Here. I made the mistake of ordering loafers from their website after following their sizing guidance to go down a half size. They still didn't fit. Sent them back and tried going down another half size based on their recommendation. Nope, still way too large. It's ridiculous that anyone would need to size down a full size and a half to get proper fitting shoes. What really bothers me is that my first order could be returned, but by the time I reordered the same style, it switched to final sale. Now I'm stuck with over $100 worth of shoes I can't wear or resell because I don't even know the actual size. I contacted customer service hoping they'd make an exception. They didn't help at all. No returns, no exchanges, no store credit offered. Just a dismissive response. Yes, I should have read the fine print about final sale more carefully. But honestly, most companies would work with a customer in this situation. Not this one. They didn't care about losing a longtime customer over a single return. This company doesn't seem bothered by that either, but I'm sharing this so others will think twice before ordering.
This Company Has Gone Downhill. I ordered a $70 pair of weejuns that were marked final sale. They don't fit right and look terrible. There's no way to get my money back. Not issuing refunds on final sale items feels like fraud to me. How is this even allowed?
Fraud Issue and No Help. Someone used stolen payment information to purchase shoes through this company. I called to cancel the fraudulent order immediately, but they refused to do anything because I didn't call within 30 minutes. This company essentially enables fraud. I'm reporting this to the authorities and my payment processor.
Terrible Customer Service and No Updates. I placed an order more than 25 days ago with no updates about it shipping. I've called multiple times and get passed around with unhelpful answers. Each time I call, I get contradictory information. When I called most recently, the representative was incredibly rude. She mentioned that I'd made a lot of contact with their company. Yes, because no one is actually helpful and everyone tells me something different. It's been an extremely frustrating experience.
Unacceptable Customer Treatment. This company does not value its customers at all. I was charged for shoes ordered over two weeks ago that I still haven't received. I had to call customer service repeatedly just to learn they're on backorder while still being advertised as available online. No estimate was provided for when they'll ship, and the company never sent any updates about the situation. The representatives were unhelpful and rude. I requested a supervisor to call me back and that request was ignored. Why charge customers for items that aren't in stock? Why keep selling them online? This situation is completely unacceptable.
No Communication or Updates. I ordered shoes a week ago and still haven't gotten any updates about my order. Despite reaching out to customer service multiple times, I never received a tracking number. Customer service isn't responding to my messages at all. This brand clearly doesn't care about its customers. I strongly recommend ordering elsewhere.
Poor Quality and No Customer Support. I bought a pair of Lyndon campside shoes and after only about 12 wears, the suede wore through in two separate spots. When I reached out to Bass about it, they showed no interest in helping. I won't be buying their shoes anymore.
Terrible Refund Process and Unreliable Company. I bought loafers for my husband as a Christmas gift and they arrived quickly. Unfortunately, they were much smaller than expected for a 9 Wide size. My husband asked me to return them, so I sent them back with a prepaid FedEx label. A couple weeks later when I called to check on the return, they said they hadn't received them. I called every day after that until they finally confirmed receipt. Then they sent an email with a credit amount that didn't include the tax I'd paid. The refund never showed up on my account. I disputed the charge and got provisional credit. Two months have passed, and my credit card company says that Bass claims they never got the shoes. I've sent proof to my credit card company showing that Bass acknowledged receiving the shoes and the amount they were supposed to credit. I will never purchase from this company again. You cannot trust them.
Disappointing Online Shopping Experience. The size 38 loafers I received measured 25cm instead of the advertised 24.5cm, and the leather felt stiff and uncomfortable. On top of that, they charged me for shipping and also for return shipping on a pair of shoes that cost $180. It took two full months to get my refund processed. For premium pricing, the service quality was poor. I won't be ordering from them online again.
