What Shoppers Say About Johnny Was
Johnny Was is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with a heavily negative reception. The overwhelming majority of reviewers report significant quality issues, describing merchandise that does not match online descriptions, defective items, and poor customer service experiences. Common complaints include fabric quality that falls short of advertised materials, refunds and replacements that are difficult to obtain, damaged items arriving in shipments, billing errors where customers were overcharged, and staff rudeness at physical locations. Some shoppers have reported design flaws in items such as poorly positioned pockets.
A small minority of reviewers praised specific product designs, though these positive comments were outweighed by frustrations with execution and service. Several reviewers indicated they would not make future purchases or suggested avoiding the online shopping channel in favor of physical stores.

Sorted by: Most recentBought what looked like a beautiful white top with blue embroidery. The fabric felt cheap and thin right away. I wore it once, spilled coffee on it, and washed it carefully on a gentle cycle in cold water, then hung it to dry. The material around one of the buttons started falling apart. I've been trying to reach someone at the company to handle this and no one's called me back. That was a hundred ninety five dollar gift basically thrown away. I'm really upset about this.
I used to carry this brand at my store in Hawaii for over a decade and customers went crazy for it. The items were fantastic and you couldn't find comparable clothing anywhere else. I was one of their biggest buyers in the state. Everything changed once they got picked up by a big corporation. The designs went downhill fast. The prints are oversized and unflattering, completely out of balance. Now they're similar to cheaper boho lines. Maybe a few styles work but most of what they're putting out is lackluster. Plus they stopped making 100% cotton items. It's a shame because they used to be really special.
Zero customer service across the board. There's no phone line that answers, no one returns calls, no live chat option, and they don't even offer a discount code for new customers. Nothing. They clearly don't care about supporting their customers at all. They're just coasting on their brand name. Don't give them your money until they actually start treating people better. Skip them entirely until things change.
Giving one star only because the site won't let me give zero. There is zero customer service here. I tried returning the only item I've ever ordered from them but the system keeps saying it hasn't shipped yet. I've emailed asking for help many different times and haven't gotten even a basic acknowledgment. This will be my first and last order from them. I'm stuck with an expensive top I can't wear and can't return. Never coming back.
This company really does care about standing behind their products and treating customers right. I appreciate their transparency and the way they make sure you're satisfied with everything you buy from them.
Really appreciate how this brand commits to clear communication and making sure customers feel heard and supported. When I had concerns, everything was handled fairly and I felt genuinely taken care of throughout the whole process.
Their return process is stuck in the dark ages. It's incredibly frustrating. How hard would it be to let someone exchange an online purchase for the correct size if you have it in stock at one of your stores? Making customers jump through so many hoops is ridiculous. I won't be ordering from them again.
I purchased a dress from their website on sale with a coupon. The total was two hundred twenty nine dollars and sixty cents. My confirmation showed the subtotal, discount, tax listed as included in subtotal, and the total amount everything balanced out correctly. But then the company charged my card again for an additional sixteen dollars and two cents. They explained this was to fix a system error on their end. That's not how this works. A company can't charge customers extra money after the fact just because they made a mistake internally. I disagreed completely but they refused to reverse it and already shipped the dress anyway.
I purchased a few items on their summer sale and two of them didn't fit right even though they were labeled as the size I ordered. I took my measuring tape and checked them myself, very disappointed to find they were marked with the wrong sizes entirely. An XL pair of pants should measure fifty inches wide, but these only measured forty five and a half inches, which is the large size according to their chart. These items are nonreturnable because of the discount, but they're unwearable because of their mislabeling. I sent them back anyway and requested a refund, and if I don't get it I'll be calling my credit card company to file a complaint and get my money back. Make sure you know what you're ordering before buying from them.
Bought several items during their summer clearance sale and two arrived labeled as XL but didn't fit properly. I pulled out my measuring tape to check and discovered both items had the wrong size tags. The pants were labeled XL but measured forty five and a half inches when XL should be fifty inches according to their own size chart. That measurement is actually for a large. Since these were marked half off, they won't accept returns. I can't wear items that are mislabeled and don't fit. I mailed them back and demanded a full refund. If they don't give it to me, I'm calling my credit card company to dispute it. Be careful when ordering from this company.
