What Shoppers Say About Johnny Was
Johnny Was is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with a heavily negative reception. The overwhelming majority of reviewers report significant quality issues, describing merchandise that does not match online descriptions, defective items, and poor customer service experiences. Common complaints include fabric quality that falls short of advertised materials, refunds and replacements that are difficult to obtain, damaged items arriving in shipments, billing errors where customers were overcharged, and staff rudeness at physical locations. Some shoppers have reported design flaws in items such as poorly positioned pockets.
A small minority of reviewers praised specific product designs, though these positive comments were outweighed by frustrations with execution and service. Shoppers across multiple categories (online orders, physical store visits, and customer service interactions) report feeling deceived by the gap between advertised quality and actual products received. Several reviewers indicated they would not make future purchases or suggested avoiding the online shopping channel in favor of physical stores.

Sorted by: Most recentI ordered items and they shipped me the completely wrong product. Two things needed to be sent back including the incorrect item they packed. They refunded one immediately, but not the second one, which was the one they sent by error. Even though it got back to them on the same day, I haven't received that refund yet. I've tried calling and emailing so many times and gotten nowhere. No one's even apologized for messing up. When I asked for direct contact info for their customer service team, they refused to provide it. This is honestly the worst customer service experience I've had, particularly considering this was entirely their mistake.
They sent me the wrong item entirely. I had to return two things from my order, including the item they mislabeled in their warehouse. One refund came through quickly, but the other item was the one they sent me by mistake. It arrived back at their facility the same day but I'm still waiting for that refund. I've called and emailed repeatedly with no real help or even an apology for their error. They also wouldn't give me contact info for someone in their customer service department so I could escalate my concerns. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced, especially frustrating since they were the ones who made the mistake.
I used to really enjoy Johnny Was and their other brands, but something changed and not for the better. The company feels completely different now. I'm not sure if ownership shifted, but customer service has basically disappeared. It's like talking to nobody on the other end. These aren't cheap clothes either. A single item runs several hundred dollars. I loved them because of the unique designs and quality fabrics, plus they actually cared about their customers. That's all gone now. Bought a sale dress for close to $200 after a discount. It fit three sizes too big. Called the same day it arrived and they reluctantly gave me store credit. I paid to send it back myself. Weeks later I used that credit to buy a kimono, adding another sixty dollars. I already owned several kimonos from them and they were great. This new one? The materials are cheap and flimsy, with terrible woven cuffs. Called them again and after bouncing me around to different people, they said nothing could be done about it.
I've bought quite a few pieces from them over the years. Some have been really nice, others I've literally used as cleaning rags on my floor. Don't expect any real customer service from this company. I unsubscribed from their emails. Such a letdown for a boho brand, especially with so many of us stuck shopping online lately.
Bought a gorgeous silk blouse online and I love it, but then got hit with a second bill for over thirty dollars out of nowhere. I emailed asking why since postage was supposed to be a flat rate. After three months and multiple messages, I've gotten absolutely nothing back. This extra charge feels sketchy to me and with no response from the company, I'm concerned this might even be fraudulent. The lack of communication makes this whole situation really concerning. I'd steer clear of ordering from them.
