What Shoppers Say About Mayt
Maytag receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 19 reviews averaging 1.1 out of 5. Across multiple appliance categories (washers, dryers, dishwashers), customers report significant reliability issues within the first year of ownership. Common complaints include component failures requiring multiple repair visits, extended wait times between service appointments (sometimes weeks), and frustration with warranty coverage that becomes limited after the initial twelve-month period from delivery rather than from actual use.
Customer service and repair support emerge as major pain points, with shoppers describing interactions as unhelpful or unresponsive. Several reviewers mention being charged substantial diagnostic fees despite warranty coverage claims. The combination of premature appliance failures and poor repair experiences has led multiple customers to explicitly state they will not purchase Maytag products again, with some comparing the brand unfavorably to significantly cheaper alternatives.

Sorted by: Most recentReally let down by this purchase. There was an old Maytag dryer in the house that worked great, but when the heater went out I decided to buy new machines for a matching pair. The new dryer takes triple the time to dry clothes. The thing is so flimsy that opening the door throws it out of whack. They also sloped the top for some reason, which causes shaking and my detergent bottle slides right off. The washer at least has a bigger drum. Even the basic model doesn't make sense to use without consulting the manual just to do a rinse and spin cycle. There's something called a casual cycle that means nothing. It's also got that sloped top. I really messed up on this one.
Picked up a Maytag washer and had a decent run for about three years before the spin cycle gave up except on heavy duty mode. Then just the other night it completely quit. The technician said the motherboard is shot and fixing it would be around eight hundred dollars, though they weren't certain that's the only problem. Called up Maytag and waited on hold for a bit, then got offered a quarter off if I order through their site. Someone told me my code would show up via email within ten minutes. Got transferred to sales and held for over two hours because I didn't want to lose the offer. Finally hung up and tried calling back but they'd closed. No code arrived, no salesperson helped, and nothing came from them. Now I'm stuck with a broken washer full of wet, smelly clothes. Update: I ended up ordering online with the discount code after calling back following the long weekend. The delivery date kept changing while I was placing my order. Called them about it and they said it goes by the order date. They've sent me four separate delivery dates to my email now. How am I supposed to make plans to be home when there's zero certainty about when this thing shows up? I won't be using them again.
Absolutely crazy experience with Maytag. Brand new washer didn't work so I asked for a refund. They sent another unit instead. Same issue, wouldn't run. These dumb smart machines are a nightmare. Asked for a return and they said let us send a tech first. Then they told me to call a plumber. I paid for that myself. Then another tech came out. Then they said oh wait, your return window already passed because of all the time you spent doing this stuff and paying for the plumber, so that's your problem now. I am absolutely never buying from Maytag again.
I'd give this zero stars if I could!!! Picked a Maytag dishwasher because I thought they were trustworthy with solid warranty coverage. Boy was I wrong. Thing broke in year one, got the pump replaced, and wouldn't you know it - same problem showed up five months later. Now they're telling me the 10 year warranty is basically useless since it only covers a handful of items. Either I pay a fortune for repairs or shell out more for an extended warranty. This is ridiculous. Everyone says Maytag means quality but they're actually terrible. Just buy something else. Seriously, stay away from anything under the Whirlpool umbrella. Total garbage.
Find something else. Not worth the headache! Got a washing machine just before the end of 2024. It broke two weeks later. Still waiting on parts and now we're in late December. They won't send me a replacement even though they've already wasted a month trying to track down a part.
We got a Maytag stove from a big box retailer thinking it was a quality brand. The oven temperature has been all over the place since day one. The store tried helping us work things out with Maytag but they refused to cooperate. A technician came by and confirmed the issue existed, then Maytag actually threatened to bill us for the service visit. We've been going back and forth for a year now through countless calls and emails. Their response is basically anger and a flat no to everything. Skip Maytag if your wallet matters to you. They got paid and that's the end of their concern. Used to be companies stood behind what they sold, but those days are gone and Maytag proves it.
Wish I'd read complaints before purchasing a Maytag washer! Spent over a grand in late 2023 and it started acting up a couple months in, then quit completely in summer. Getting it fixed turned into a nightmare. The repair crew figured it was the control board weeks ago. Fast forward and they put in a new board but still nothing. Now they're wondering if it's the pump or something else entirely. I'm ready to junk this thing and grab a competitor's model that actually functions. Their support desk just tells me to keep trying repairs for the next few months when it already takes 45 minutes to reach anyone. I want a refund. This company is terrible.
Terrible experience! We bought a freezer through a warehouse club with a two year warranty. Less than one year in and a component failed. By the time we noticed, everything had thawed to room temperature. We lost a ton of food including all our meat and seafood! Multiple websites show they offer two hundred fifty dollars in food reimbursement but they flat out declined to pay it. We're definitely skipping Whirlpool and Maytag next time.
Would give zero stars if possible! Our washer has been a constant problem. The motor burnt out within the first month so they replaced it with a brand new one, which turned out to be equally bad. The second unit has a broken detergent dispenser and a cracked lid that's broken twice. I've spent over seven hours on calls with support and keep getting passed around or told nothing can be done except offered a coupon to buy a replacement when my machine is barely three years old. They refuse to acknowledge the defective left hinge on the lid that keeps breaking in the same spot, eventually shattering and making the washer unusable since it won't lock shut. They already replaced the lid once. It cracked again after just over a year so they say it's not covered under warranty anymore. Nothing has disappointed me more than this washer and this company. They make the product just well enough to survive the first year. Then everything falls apart. I will never purchase a Maytag or Whirlpool product again. Stay away from them!
