What Shoppers Say About pitboss-grills.com
Pit Boss Grills receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 20 reviews averaging 1.5 out of 5. The most common complaints center on quality control issues present immediately upon purchase (paint defects, rust, manufacturing defects), premature component failures (control board failures, auger motor failures, heating element issues within one to four uses), and inadequate customer service when seeking warranty support or replacements. Shoppers report that replacement parts are difficult to obtain, come without adequate installation instructions, and that customer service representatives are unhelpful or unwilling to work with customers on warranty claims or replacement part costs. Several reviewers mention cold weather performance problems and note that warranty coverage excludes cosmetic damage. A small minority of reviewers appear satisfied with their purchases, but they represent only 10 percent of the feedback received.
The recurring theme across negative reviews is that Pit Boss grills fail to meet basic reliability expectations for their price point (units costing over $1,600), with multiple shoppers reporting that the same component failures have occurred on multiple units they have owned. Customers express frustration that control board replacements cost $135 and that customer service offers little support beyond suggesting accessory items like seasoning packs as compensation. Many reviewers explicitly recommend switching to competitors like Traeger or Camp Chef based on their negative experiences.

Sorted by: Most recentI'd give this negative stars if possible. Bought the Copperhead smoker right before Thanksgiving. Used it exactly once before the control board died. It's been backordered ever since. I found posts from years ago complaining about the same backordered boards and they blamed it on the pandemic. What's the excuse now? I've missed out on using a smoker for three major holidays already and probably won't have it for upcoming events. Customer service finally threw me a bone and offered some seasoning packets. How helpful is seasoning when you don't have a working grill? It's been almost two months now. When I did get to use it on a couple of turkeys, they didn't hold a candle to ones I've made on other brands. Save yourself the frustration.
The app is absolutely terrible. I've tried to use it probably a hundred times and it's pointless. The biometric feature won't register so the whole thing is useless. Should've gone with Treger instead.
Grabbed a Pit Boss Smoker from a local retailer on mid-June. Used it once, got to Thanksgiving and the temperature gauge never climbed above 180 degrees. I called their service team and basically got told the thermostat is just decorative. Started smoking turkey breasts at 11:20 in the morning and didn't finish until 5:15 at night. Ended up blocking both back vents with foil just to try to hold heat. It was cold out, never dropped below 34 degrees, so I had to tape a separate thermometer in there to actually know what temp I was at. $277 paperweight as far as I'm concerned and I'm stuck with it.
This thing broke the first time I fired it up. Customer service was useless - all they'd do was send me some parts. Wouldn't even rush the shipping when it failed right in the middle of cooking. The actual first use and it was already broken. I'm done with this brand and looking to return it for something that actually works.
Terrible experience with customer service. I've only had this smoker for under 90 days and used it four times. It malfunctioned and somehow the pellet hopper caught fire. Customer service even admitted they know this is a recurring issue with their product, but they won't replace the unit. They're willing to send parts and let me repaint it if I want, but they say they have a blanket policy against doing full replacements. Pretty messed up if you ask me.
This company is absolutely ridiculous. I ordered a griddle cover in mid-July and by the end of August I still didn't have it. I've called multiple times and all I get are excuses about being busy, orders backing up, new warehouse construction, you name it. First they told me the order was in stock. Then it was picked. Then it was packed and just waiting on the shipping company. Nobody can actually tell me when I'll get it or when it ships. I asked for a manager and after getting passed around, they said one would call me back. He never did and apparently had nothing to help with anyway. This is the worst customer service I've experienced. I'm never buying from Pit Boss or any of their related brands ever again. You should be ashamed of how you treat customers.
Don't waste your money on these poorly made grills. Mine isn't even two months old and the auger motor already acts up half the time. Getting any kind of support to fix this thing is like pulling teeth since they already have your cash. I'm permanently switching to Trager. Some buddies warned me not to go with the cheap Pit Boss option and I wish I'd listened. Never buying from this brand again.
We bought the Lockhart about two years ago for around $800. This thing has literally caught fire on us twice while we were using it, and Pit Boss refuses to do anything except send replacement parts. They won't cover any of the damage because they call it cosmetic. I jumped through all their hoops, submitted photos, made multiple calls, and asked for either a credit toward another grill or to just replace what we have. We've been loyal customers this whole time and registered every product. Turns out the warranty they offer is basically worthless. Don't waste your money on Pit Boss products.
Really satisfied with my Pit Boss PV3 vertical smoker that has electronic controls. I've used it three times since getting it a few weeks back. There's definitely a learning curve at first, but once you figure it out the smoker performs really well. The build quality is noticeably better than the Masterbuilt I had before, and I think this one will hold up longer. I called their customer service a handful of times during setup and for operating questions. They were always available when I needed them and super helpful every time.
