What Shoppers Say About Wyndham Hotels & Resorts
Wyndham Hotels and Resorts receives sharply divided opinions from guests, with ratings clustering at extremes. Positive reviewers praise pet-friendly policies, clean rooms, reasonable pricing, and exceptional customer service from staff members who go above and beyond. However, the majority of reviews report serious issues including misleading online photos that do not match actual property conditions, maintenance problems (flimsy floors, non-functional toilets, broken fixtures), cleanliness concerns (dirty linens with burn marks, mold on food, debris in rooms), and unresponsive customer support. Several guests also report unexpected charges, unresolved booking cancellations, and poor communication.
The stark contrast in experiences suggests significant inconsistency across Wyndham properties and their booking process. While some locations deliver quality stays with attentive staff, many guests encounter properties that fall well short of online representations, coupled with difficulties resolving complaints through customer service channels. Prospective guests should research specific properties carefully and be aware of potential issues with transparency regarding amenities like parking.

Microtel in Dover Was a Total Letdown. We stayed there from mid-October through the 20th and had to prepay when we checked in. They wouldn't even accept my Visa gift card. The sheets looked dirty and stayed that way even after we asked for clean ones on day one. Breakfast consisted of stale, moldy items like bread and English muffins. The WiFi was basically useless, and the TV in the room runs on WiFi so we couldn't watch anything. The room itself was filthy - they never vacuumed and the carpet had visible stains. The bath towels were dirty and felt overused, plus they were way too small. There was no coffee maker or microwave despite what was advertised. The fitness center was closed. The room stayed hot because the thermostat was broken. When we brought all these problems to the front desk, they wouldn't refund anything and just kept saying changes were coming soon. We couldn't find another hotel since everything was booked for weddings and a film festival. It was a really bad experience.
This Place Should Have Closed Years Ago. Microtel in Shelbyville, Tennessee is absolutely revolting and should have been shut down long ago. The moment you walk in it stinks, the walls are filthy, and everything feels ancient and desperately needs updating. But the worst part by far is the roaches. We stayed in March 2024 and found one in our room. Even after reporting it that night, we still had to sleep there until morning when management showed up and moved us. We had to go back to the same hotel in July because my son had shows nearby and nowhere else had availability. On the first night back, my 7-year-old grandson found a roach on the bed. I went into the bathroom and saw another one crawling in a disgusting corner by the tub. So that's one roach in March and two in July. The front desk clerk even mentioned they lock up the cleaning supplies because homeless people come in and get high off them. Why are those kinds of people even getting into the hotel? This place is a nightmare and I have photos and videos to prove it. City officials need to do something about this place.
Charged Twice and Left Hanging. I showed up late after some travel delays. The front desk staff asked me to pay with my card downstairs even though I'd already booked through a reservation site. I wasn't completely sure if I'd already paid upfront, so I went ahead and paid again. When I reviewed my charges later, sure enough they'd gotten me twice - once through the booking and again at checkout. I called multiple times trying to get it fixed, but kept getting told they were too busy and got transferred around until the calls dropped. Even reaching out to the booking site didn't help resolve anything.
One of the Worst Places I've Ever Stayed. This hotel was absolutely gross - it reeked, the carpet in the hallways had wrinkles you could actually trip on, walls were filthy with visible gouges, and there was even a cracked mirror. The carpet was disgusting, and when I opened a drawer, cockroaches scattered out. They do offer airport shuttle service if you book a room, but if you drive your own car you can't use it. The whole vibe was like staying in a 30-year-old motel. I'd already paid through a booking site so they wouldn't refund, but I wish I'd never stayed there. Never going back.
A Night I'd Rather Forget. I checked into Microtel in Fond du Lac on February 22, 2023 hoping for a relaxing night away, but it turned out to be a nightmare. Room 213 seemed sketchy from the start - when I walked through the lobby a woman was at the vending machine without shoes on, which was a bad sign. Once in the room, I checked the bathroom and found hair on the toilet seat and some weird clear glue-like substance stuck to the sink. Then I looked at the blankets and spotted what looked like old blood stains. The phone and TV remote were both grimy and visibly dirty. The second bed had a dark stain on the comforter that I didn't even want to think about. I reported it to the front desk, and exhausted from everything, I had to pack up and go downstairs for a new room. The second room was better but still had a dirty phone, dirty TV remote, and a nasty shower curtain. The front desk said I'd get a discount for the trouble, but I never got one. It's been a week and I still haven't seen any refund. I won't recommend this place to anyone and won't be going back.
They Wouldn't Make an Exception When It Really Mattered. I booked a room at La Quinta in Deerfield Beach, Florida for $150. They have a strict no-refund policy, which I understand in most cases - it's fair that people can't book weeks ahead and cancel last minute. But within fifteen minutes of my booking, my cat started having seizures. I'd never seen anything like it before and called an emergency vet right away. When I called the hotel back, still within 25 minutes of making the reservation, to explain what happened, they basically told me they couldn't help. I get that policy is policy, but this was a genuine emergency and a little compassion would have gone a long way. That $150 they kept is nothing compared to the damage to their reputation they'll face when I tell people about this.
Two Rooms I Never Got to Use. We had booked two rooms at a Microtel property in Bremen and arrived at 2:15 wanting an early check-in since we had a wedding at 4pm. After waiting around 15 minutes, someone finally came to help and told us no rooms would be ready until 4:30 at the earliest. That didn't work for us, so we had to find a different place to stay. When I called to cancel through the booking site, they said the hotel would still charge us anyway - and they did. I contacted Wyndham customer service and got told they had no control over their properties and to contact the hotel directly for help. The hotel basically said tough luck, their cancellation policy wouldn't budge. So I got stuck paying for two rooms I never even stepped foot in. Really frustrating situation all around.
Wonderful Stay at Ramada by Wyndham in Grand Island. I was really impressed with how friendly and welcoming everyone here is. The staff truly cares about making guests feel at home and treated right. There's a real sense of team spirit among all the employees, from the front desk to housekeeping. The place is reasonably priced and the service is genuinely personal, not corporate. They're going through renovations right now to make things even better, and the property clearly deserves support as they invest in improvements. If you're looking for a place where people actually care about your stay, this is it.
Great Experience at Ramada by Wyndham in Grand Island. The staff here really goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and appreciated. One standout employee made my stay memorable with genuine, friendly service that goes way above what you'd expect at this price point. The whole team has a real sense of family and community working together. The property is clearly doing renovations to improve things, and it's definitely worth your support. Everyone works together to make sure guests are treated right.
