What Shoppers Say About toughmudder.com
Tough Mudder events receive sharply divided feedback. One satisfied participant praised the variety of obstacles, safety standards, and knowledgeable staff across multiple event locations. However, three reviewers reported significant frustrations with the company's business practices, citing mandatory fees for bag storage and parking passes added on top of event registration costs, inadequate security at storage areas where items can be accessed by anyone, and poor customer service responsiveness when issues arise (including a case where a double-charge went unresolved despite the participant's prompt contact).
Several reviewers noted a perception that Tough Mudder has shifted from a community-focused experience toward aggressive monetization, with one participant expressing nostalgia for earlier events before the accumulation of additional mandatory fees became standard.

Sorted by: Most recentTerrible Business Model. This company operates with really unfair practices. They charge you separately for bag storage and call it mandatory, but all it amounts to is a bunch of tables scattered around where people just throw their stuff on top and underneath with barely anyone watching. Since everyone can access the whole area, anything could walk away and nobody would notice. There's only one staff member at the entrance who can't possibly keep an eye on everything given how huge the space is and how crowded it gets. The photo package deal is a complete waste too because the camera crews don't show up until you're basically done with the 10+ mile course. They should tell you that before you pay. Even worse, I never got sent my photos and they won't give me my money back. Save yourself the headache and don't give this company your money.
Used to be good, now it's all about the money. I had a great time at their events before, and sure there were some issues here and there but what doesn't have problems right. But this latest year was different. Now you're forced to buy a bag drop ticket on top of everything else plus parking passes. They talk a big game about building community and team spirit but don't actually give you anything that would help a group of friends organize and compete together. The entry fees have gone through the roof making it nearly impossible for regular working people like me to participate. When did staying fit become something only rich folks could do? And watch out for your credit card because they've got some shady automatic membership thing tied to Active that tries to charge an extra $100 without you really noticing. You have to go hunting through a completely different website just to turn it off. At this point the company just seems interested in grabbing every dollar they possibly can from participants.
Double Charged with No Customer Service Response. I accidentally registered for the same event twice and sent them an email right away explaining the mistake and requesting my money back. They never responded to me so I ended up losing a significant amount of money. Really disappointed with how they handle customer service situations.
Fantastic experience, amazing obstacles and crew! I've participated in several of their events across different locations and they consistently knock it out of the park. The variety of obstacles is impressive and everything is clearly built to the highest safety standards. You can tell the staff and volunteers really know their stuff when it comes to the course layout, each obstacle, and where to grab merchandise.
