What Shoppers Say About LiveAquaria
LiveAquaria receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with shoppers reporting frequent deaths of fish and other aquatic animals during shipping. Customers describe receiving animals in inadequate water conditions, with multiple fish dying before arrival or shortly after opening packages. Several reviewers mention ordering live stock specifically and experiencing total loss or near-total loss of their purchases, with complaints about lack of communication and refusal to provide compensation or meaningful remedies beyond store credit for low-quality items.
The small number of positive reviews (11 percent) suggests some shoppers have had acceptable experiences, but the dominant pattern across feedback is severe dissatisfaction with animal survival rates, packing quality, and customer service responsiveness. Reviewers recommend avoiding the retailer and seeking alternatives, with some noting they stopped ordering years ago after initial bad experiences.

Sorted by: Most recentI've only ordered once and out of six Cichlids, only three made it. The shipment had two separate bags. One had three Electric Yellow Cichlids with barely any water in it, not nearly enough for three fish to survive even a single day. The other bag had three Blue Peacock Cichlids with adequate water, but all three were male so they fought and one lost almost his entire tail fin during shipping. The first bag had two dead on arrival plus water that smelled terrible. After following their acclimation procedure, I filed a claim and they gave me credit for the two Electric Yellows. The second bag had plenty of water for most fish but not for aggressive territorial species like Cichlids, so the injured fish didn't survive the first day as expected. I filed a claim right away and got no response. I filed another claim and still nothing. This company had actual standards back when it was run by the previous owner. Now it seems like the people in charge just don't care anymore. I will never order from them a second time. Also, they ask who packed the order, maybe that's something they should actually pay attention to.
I don't even know where to start with this disaster. This was my one and only order from them. I placed it online in mid-April and was really looking forward to getting my Green Spotted Puffers and Bettas. I even went through the effort of converting my freshwater setup into a brackish environment for the first time ever, which turned out to be a lot of work. I thought I was all set for their delivery. I kept checking in about the shipping status. But for four straight weeks, every single day they had a new excuse for why they couldn't ship. It was always the same story. I messaged them repeatedly and they did respond each time, which gave me hope things would happen soon. Finally on a Friday they said everything was being prepped and would ship out that following Monday. That evening I got an email like they promised. It said my entire order was CANCELED because certain items were out of stock. They don't even know when the Green Spotted Puffers will be available again. Can you believe they waited until the very day it was supposed to ship to tell me this? I'm furious and let down. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM.
I spent over $150 on this order and everything showed up dead. Just from the smell when I opened the package, it was clear many had been dead for a while before arrival. There was zero communication and zero compensation. They just kept my money without any concern about the dead animals. This operation is a total scam. Be careful before you order from them.
They shipped me a frag plug with a rock glued to the bottom. When I complained about it, their solution was to offer store credit so I could purchase additional items of similar poor quality. Not impressed.
This company is absolutely horrible and I'd tell anyone to go somewhere else. I placed an order for 21 fish and only received 13. Eight fish never made it, and three more arrived dead. Another one was barely hanging on and expired just five minutes after I opened the box. Two more died within hours. The staff member who answered the phone was incredibly rude, and their return process is just awful. Even that same employee mentioned the owner's policies are unreasonable and poor. At this point I'm accepting the financial loss because I don't trust the quality of their animals. Heading to Petco instead.
I stopped ordering from these guys years ago and remembered exactly why when my recent shipment arrived. I made a fresh order but foolishly didn't look up current reviews first. Definitely steer clear of this operation if you can. They claim to be a local Wisconsin shop, but they actually dropship from suppliers in the Los Angeles area. Their main advantage used to be variety, but they frequently don't have what their website says is in stock, and they don't seem to care about the health of what they do send. I got twelve Black Neon Tetras that were completely covered in Ich when they arrived, and two were already gone on arrival. By the end of day one, four more had died. Day two, another tetras died plus one shrimp. By day eight I'd lost a Black Loach too. Out of my entire order of twelve tetras, two loaches and three shrimp, that's a lot of casualties. I was hoping to bring my fifteen year old planted tank back to life, but I'm still looking for a better source. Companies like Aquatic Arts and Aquahuna are way better choices.
Each order comes with complimentary Ich and all the dead fish you can handle. Let me tell you, I've been keeping and breeding aquatic animals for many years and I know what I'm doing. I placed an order for ten Panda Corydoras, six Adolfo Corydoras, five Tiger Barbs, and six Cherry Barbs. They split it into two shipments for no clear reason. First shipment went out, then a few hours later I got a message saying the second shipment was on hold because of supply issues and they'd send it when most items were ready, even though they'd already charged me. The first shipment with the ten Pandas arrived and after I slowly acclimated them over four hours to my fully cycled quarantine tank, I immediately noticed they all had severe Ich. About sixty minutes in, four of them swam to the surface, barely moving with their mouths up at the water line. One died before nightfall. I sent an email describing what was happening and asking if they'd work something out with me. It was around five in the afternoon so I didn't expect a quick answer, but that same evening I got notice my second shipment was shipped for next day delivery. The following morning...
Skip this company entirely. I'm really disappointed with my experience here. They took my payment and shipped me unhealthy fish that didn't make it past an hour. When I reached out about the problem, their customer service was completely unhelpful. The fish arrived in poor condition and I have no way to recover my money. On top of everything, my credit card was charged multiple times, so I had to contact my bank to dispute the charges. This place needs to be shut down. Do not give them your business.
Got one fish that was already dead when it arrived plus another one that clearly had a serious infection that they definitely should have caught when bagging. That one lasted only thirty-six hours. Also one fish from the order was completely missing.
Be very cautious. My shipment contained over two hundred dollars worth of dead animals and it arrived a full day late on Christmas Eve night. I spent five hours trying to work with them to save what I could, but that was a waste of time since the problem was entirely on their end. They have my money but I got nothing but a ruined Christmas Eve when I should have been with family. When I went to use the store credit they issued, I was told it had expired. So after all that effort helping them, they won't help me. Their customer service people are incredibly unfriendly and take days to reply. I just finished setting up a massive reef tank and I will absolutely never work with this company again.
