Dooney & Bourke Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Dooney & Bourke
Dooney & Bourke receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with shoppers reporting a pattern of serious customer service failures. The most frequent complaints center on wrong items arriving (particularly incorrect bag colors), unresponsive customer support across phone and email channels, excessive return fees that are deducted from refunds, and misleading promotional offers. Customers report shipping taking over a month, no return instructions included in boxes, and representatives refusing to correct billing errors or honor advertised discounts.
A small minority of shoppers (approximately 15 percent) report positive experiences, but these are vastly outnumbered by one-star reviews describing what reviewers characterize as indifference to customer concerns. Long-time customers express particular frustration, noting that service quality appears to have deteriorated despite their loyalty. The consistency of complaints about wrong colors, unresponsive support, and deceptive discount terms suggests systemic issues rather than isolated incidents.

Sorted by: Most recentI'm really frustrated by how they advertise and their unfair return policy. I bought a bag for my wife online in December right from their site. She's owned about 25 of their bags over the years. I held onto it to give to her on Valentine's Day, but we celebrated early. She didn't like the color, so I tried to return it. That's when I found out their return window is only 30 days from purchase. I don't remember seeing that restriction when I placed my order. I think they're being misleading with their advertising, and their customer service is awful. I'm never buying from them again. I've told my female coworkers about this experience, and I'm hoping they'll think twice before purchasing from them too.
I got two bags for Christmas gifts, and I'm planning to grab two more for upcoming birthdays. I've carried their bags for years, and Coach is my other favorite. The bags showed up right on time and were packaged beautifully with no problems. Their Italian specialty leather is soft, and on the Alligator style it'll get even softer as you use it. The designs are so classy and elegant that I actually hesitated giving them away. That's when you know the gifts are going to be absolutely loved. I told my sister and daughters if they didn't like them, no pressure, but honestly I loved them too. The bags made it to them and I'm thrilled seeing how happy they are with them. One of the bags has a stiffer leather style compared to the softer ones they already had, which makes them really unique. Both of my daughters worked at Nordstrom when they were younger and always had beautiful designer bags on hand. These fit right in with that same level of quality and elegance, and they work with casual or dressed up outfits. You'll be satisfied with these. Look at their sales section, find one of a kind styles, and definitely use any promo codes available to get the best pricing. This is a great site and you'll love it too. Just make sure to check the dimensions and maybe grab a measuring tape to get a good sense of the size before you order.
I can't believe how bad the customer service is at this company. I purchased a Pebble Turnlock Handle Tote for $358, but delivery was delayed because it was backordered. Even after they shipped it, it took forever to arrive. When I finally got it, I noticed the same bag was now on sale for $209. I called to ask if they'd adjust the price, but the representative was incredibly rude and short with me, saying the five-day window from shipment had passed. I explained that I'd just received it and the sale had just started, and that shipping delays weren't my fault. When I asked for a supervisor, they said someone would contact me in 24 to 48 hours. Instead, they just told me to return it. I pointed out that would create more work for everyone, but they clearly just want customers to give up and go away. I'm never ordering from them again. They don't value their customers at all.
I've been waiting a week just to get a shipping number. Don't buy from here, it's basically a scam. The products might be nice, but their unprofessional behavior will drive you crazy. Not worth ordering there at all.
I wish I could give this less than zero stars. I had a bag from this company from years ago that I'd stored away with proper air circulation. When I took it out, the leather had literally melted into itself. I've owned lots of bags and never seen this happen. I reached out to the company, but they ignore you and never respond. This is a horrible company and I tell everyone to stay away. Go with Coach, Tumi, Kate Spade, any other brand. You'd probably even get better treatment from a knockoff company.
I used to absolutely love this brand until I had to deal with their customer service. My purse got leather stains from rain after owning it less than a month, and they made me ship it back at my own cost of $26. Every time I asked for an update, I had to contact them. They said to pick a different purse, but when I chose a darker color like they suggested, they said no and gave me only two color options, neither of which I wanted. I also bought a $115 wallet to match my original bag, and they wouldn't do anything about that either. They wouldn't even offer me a discount on another wallet. I told them to just refund my money since I'm not paying for a purse color I hate. Still no response, and it's been over a month and a half now.
This company has terrible customer service and won't stand behind what they sell. My purse caved in on the sides near the bottom, and when I complained, I was told I needed to stuff it with tissue and hang it up as if the problem was my fault. That's ridiculous. No one empties and stuffs their everyday bag with tissue every single night. It's clearly a defect. However, D&B defines defective so narrowly that they don't replace anything. I would rate them negative stars if the system allowed it. The customer service reps are rude and dismissive.
I've been a loyal customer for 30 years. I got an email from them with a bag on sale and an extra 10% off, so I placed an order. Two hours later I looked for the confirmation email and didn't see one. I checked my credit card and it hadn't been charged either. I emailed to ask if the order went through, but got no response. To be safe, I ordered the bag again, planning to contact someone to cancel whichever one arrived if both got processed. The next day, still no email response, so I tried their chat function. They said there was no order in the system but gave me a phone number. When I called, the person refused to honor the price I saw yesterday since there was no order. I explained that when I clicked to order twice, Apple Pay confirmed it both times. I can't control whether the website processes the order correctly. He wouldn't budge and said if I want the same bag, I either pay full price or keep checking for sales. Not helpful at all. I've loved their bags for years, but after this treatment I'm looking elsewhere.
I'm upset that they make you pay to return something you don't like. They don't refund your full amount including taxes, and then they actually take money from your own pocket for return shipping. I've bought over 12 items since I've been recovering from surgery and couldn't go shopping in person, but after getting charged to return something, I'm done ordering from them online.
My package was delivered to a random neighbor and then marked as delivered. When I contacted the company right after surgery, they basically said it was their responsibility ended once it left their facility. They claimed they looked into it and were told the GPS coordinates showed my area and someone received it. I explained I never got it and wasn't home. I sent them doorbell footage and got another email saying they'd investigate for a couple of weeks. I went straight to UPS, who connected me with USPS. Their representative took it to his manager and they acted immediately. They found the package at my neighbor's place, and I had it in my possession within an hour and a half. The whole situation was ridiculous, especially having just come out of surgery. I won't be ordering from them again.
