What Shoppers Say About Expedia Australia
Expedia Australia has received exclusively negative feedback from shoppers, with all 22 reviews rating the service at one star. The most consistent complaints involve refund processing failures, with customers reporting indefinite delays, missed deadlines, and agents repeatedly pushing back promised refund dates without resolution. Shoppers also describe significant issues with booking accuracy, including confirmed reservations that were not actually available at hotels and flights, leaving customers stranded. Additionally, customers report poor customer service responsiveness, with some stating that support requests go unanswered entirely and that the company deflects responsibility between itself and vendors, leaving customers without meaningful assistance or recourse.
The reviews paint a picture of a booking service that consistently fails to deliver on its core promises: securing available accommodations and providing functional customer support when issues arise. Whether the problem involves refunds, accommodation quality, or booking validity, shoppers report a pattern of unresponsive communication and unresolved complaints. No positive aspects of the service were mentioned across the available feedback.

Sorted by: Most recentMultiple promises to cancel flight but zero action When I asked to cancel a flight and get a refund, the airline agreed to it. Because I booked through Expedia instead of directly, I had to have them process it as the travel agency. I emailed and called repeatedly from overseas asking them to cancel and process the refund. Each time they said yes but then did nothing. I made the request 10 days before the flight but they just ignored me. It feels fraudulent. I will never book with Expedia again and I'm extremely unhappy with how they handled this.
Money keeps getting pushed back indefinitely I requested a refund back in March following their stated policy. They initially said 7 business days, but when that deadline passed and I called to check on it, the agent pushed it to a later date. I've called multiple times since then and each time they give me a new date further out. First it was one date, then another, then they're telling me early April. Every time I contact them, the promised refund date just keeps getting delayed. This completely goes against what they promised me in writing. I expect them to actually follow through on their own refund policy like they're supposed to.
Expedia and airline just pass the buck Neither company takes responsibility for your booking. Expedia tells you to contact JAL, then JAL tells you to contact Expedia. There's no actual support, no helpful assistance. The only thing available is an automated system that might give you a cancellation and partial refund at some point, who knows. Don't book with them.
Confirmed booking that wasn't actually available left us stranded and broke I booked a three night stay at a luxury 5 star resort for my partner's birthday using Expedia because their site showed rooms available when other booking sites didn't. They sent us text and email confirmations saying the hotel was booked and included all our reservation details. My partner and I then booked flights and took time off work. I also reserved activities and restaurants around the area for the celebration. Days later Expedia calls to say the resort has no availability. They offered alternative properties at the same or higher price that were mostly 4 star motels with two beds, which were completely different from what we booked and much worse, with none of the amenities we wanted. Why show availability and take payment and send a confirmation email if there's no actual rooms? In most countries this would be deceptive advertising and a violation of consumer protection laws. Some might call it a classic bait and switch tactic.
Ignored my refund requests for terrible accommodation I stayed at a property for 3 nights that I booked through them, and it was completely unusable because of the awful smell. I had to book somewhere else immediately. When I contacted Expedia requesting a refund, they never responded. The property owner didn't help either. This is the last time I'll ever use Expedia. They're unwilling to address problems and neither does their vendor. That property is not trustworthy and I'd warn everyone away.
Unresponsive when vendor provides poor accommodation I booked a 3 night stay at a property in Salerno through their site but the place was completely unlivable due to a terrible odor. I had to find different accommodations on short notice. When I reached out asking for a refund, neither Expedia nor the property owner would help me. They just ignored my requests. I'm done using Expedia for any bookings going forward. Their service is terrible and I'd warn anyone considering that property to stay away - the owners were deceptive and unreliable.
You get a bargain price with zero actual support Yes the rates are low, sometimes competitive, and you can compare other sites easily with Google Hotels. But the moment you need any help or have a question about your booking the following happens: customer service says there's nothing they can do, and then their legal team sends you a formal message saying Expedia isn't responsible, you have to pay everything in full, and if you try to dispute the charges they'll cancel your booking and keep all the fees according to their terms.
Cheap upfront price but brutal fees and terrible flight routing It seems affordable at first but then they book you on roundabout flights that eat up a full day of travel when direct flights exist that take only 5 hours. When you ask to change even one small thing, they charge you astronomical fees. We wanted to avoid nearly 20 hours of extra travel time on the return and they wanted $1500 to switch from the business class we bought to an economy direct flight. That's highway robbery. They also quoted us $2500 to upgrade from premium economy to business class on existing tickets, which is more than buying a whole new business class ticket and didn't make any sense, especially when the plane had empty seats. It's pure greed.
Sounded helpful but delivered nothing when we needed support My family needed assistance booking a ticket in a difficult time but they were completely unhelpful and incompetent. It ended up costing us thousands of dollars because of their poor service.
