What Shoppers Say About Expedia Australia
Expedia Australia has received exclusively negative feedback from shoppers, with all 22 reviews rating the service at one star. The most consistent complaints involve refund processing failures, with customers reporting indefinite delays, missed deadlines, and agents repeatedly pushing back promised refund dates without resolution. Shoppers also describe significant issues with booking accuracy, including confirmed reservations that were not actually available at hotels and flights, leaving customers stranded. Additionally, customers report poor customer service responsiveness, with some stating that support requests go unanswered entirely and that the company deflects responsibility between itself and vendors, leaving customers without meaningful assistance or recourse.
The reviews paint a picture of a booking service that consistently fails to deliver on its core promises: securing available accommodations and providing functional customer support when issues arise. Whether the problem involves refunds, accommodation quality, or booking validity, shoppers report a pattern of unresponsive communication and unresolved complaints. No positive aspects of the service were mentioned across the available feedback.

Sorted by: Most recentDouble booked and then dismissed with zero concern I had booked a nice room to celebrate my birthday at a time when I was also dealing with health issues and had recently been hospitalized. I got to the hotel and they made me wait forever with almost no explanation, then finally said they overbooked and couldn't give me a room. But when I checked Expedia multiple rooms were showing as available. I eventually got my money back but only after spending more time on the phone dealing with it. But money isn't the whole issue here. I lost hours and had the stress of finding alternate lodging last minute while sick. Expedia's response was just a blank 'sorry you're upset' with zero explanation, accountability or reassurance. I'm deleting the app and posting warnings everywhere. Other customers report the same problems so this seems to be what they do.
Hotel couldn't honor my reservation and no real accountability I booked a hotel room to celebrate my birthday, and I was dealing with feeling sick beforehand. When I arrived, they said the hotel was overbooked and had no rooms available for me, even though the Expedia app still showed rooms open. I did get a refund eventually but only after spending more time on the phone. The bigger issue is the wasted time and stress of finding somewhere else to stay while I wasn't feeling well. Expedia just gave me a generic apology with zero explanation or real concern. I'm removing the app and posting reviews everywhere to let people know what happened. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a pattern with them.
Spent $649 on flights that don't exist I paid $649 for flights in Australia through Expedia and they never completed the booking. When I contacted the airline directly they had zero knowledge of my reservation and sent me back to Expedia for help. Getting support from them is pointless, their system doesn't work. I believe I've lost that money but filed a dispute with my bank to see if they can help. I doubt it'll work and I'm convinced this was a scam.
Charged $649 for flights that were never actually reserved I gave Expedia $649 for airline tickets within Australia, but then discovered the booking was never completed. When I called the airline directly, they had zero record of my reservation and told me to contact Expedia. Unfortunately their support team was no help at all. I'm out the money and have filed a chargeback through my credit card company, though I'm not optimistic about getting it back. The whole situation feels like I got scammed.
Starting price keeps jumping up right before you pay When I searched for a flight it listed $82. I filled in all my passenger info and payment details then hit pay. Suddenly a message appears saying it's now $95, I click to pay again and it goes to $105. The price kept climbing with each attempt, hitting $155 before I quit. This is obviously a bait and switch advertisement tactic and it's wrong for a company this size to operate this way. Anyone considering booking should file a complaint with the authorities and avoid this company entirely.
Flight prices kept climbing at checkout as a bait tactic When I searched for a flight the price showed as $82. After I entered all my passenger details and payment information and went to complete the purchase, a popup said the price had gone up to $95. I clicked to proceed but it jumped to $105. This happened multiple more times with the price climbing to $155 before I gave up. This is clearly a bait and switch scam where they hook you in with a low price then jack it up right at the end. A company as big as this should know better. File a complaint with the consumer protection authority and stay away from them.
Can't reach anyone and they won't talk to you about your booking Getting ahold of this company is impossible. They keep shuffling you to the app, but you get emails from Expedia saying the app can't handle it. You're stuck going in circles. I had an apartment reserved but the owner cancelled because the building was sold. Expedia told me nothing had to be paid for the nonrefundable booking, so I went to cancel it on their platform. Now they're saying I owe the full amount. This is ridiculous.
Customer service reps won't answer your questions directly The support staff are unhelpful and won't give you straight answers. You ask them something specific and they talk around the issue instead of addressing it. I spent over 2 and a half hours on calls today and still haven't resolved my problem. The company seems to be deliberately charging declined payment methods and then taking money from them anyway, even after you give them different payment info.
Paid for an activity that was never available and got stonewalled I booked an experience in Hong Kong for about 170 AUD on their site with a confirmed slot on a specific date and time. When I showed up, the venue was doing a private event and said there was nothing available for my group. I asked Expedia for my money back and it became a nightmare. I had to explain the situation to about 5 or 6 different chat agents, losing hours going over the same thing repeatedly. Eventually they said they couldn't get in touch with their supplier to verify the experience didn't happen, so they refused to refund me. It feels like they just took my money and don't care whether services are actually delivered. Absolute scam and the worst customer experience I've had.
Won't give refund even with proof I have documentation and confirmation from checkout showing my situation. The hotel claimed I didn't check out early even though I have records proving I did. Expedia says they can't override what the hotel says so they won't refund me. I'm just out the money with a noncommittal response and basically told nothing can be done about it. I will never book with them again.
