What Shoppers Say About United
United is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 19 shoppers, with a heavily polarized response: the vast majority of reviewers report significant service failures. Common complaints include flight delays and missed connections with poor rebooking options, denied compensation claims with inconsistent treatment of passengers, unresponsive or rude customer service representatives, lounge access issues, and unresolved refund promises. Reviewers describe frustration with lack of accountability and transparency when issues occur. A small segment of reviewers report positive experiences, though these lack detail.
The overwhelming pattern across reviews suggests systemic problems with customer service consistency, compensation claim handling, and follow-through on promises made by agents. Many reviewers indicate they would not use United again due to their experiences with delays, rebooking failures, and unresolved refund requests.

Sorted by: Most recentThey cancelled my flight the same day I was supposed to travel. Then they stuck me on two different flights that wouldn't get me there until 6am the next morning. I got nothing in compensation.
This cost me $244 that I'll never get back. Flying back from a work trip from Denver to London, I had to pay an arm and a leg just to snag one of the limited extra legroom seats so I could stretch out and use the bathroom without climbing over anyone. Then when I tried to find my previous trip info and grab a receipt for that seat purchase, the United website went haywire with error after error. Looking up past trips using my confirmation number and last name should be straightforward, but it doesn't work no matter how carefully I enter the details. And good luck finding any receipts through their system, whether it's for the seat or even the full flight ticket.
Really impressed with how they handled my damaged luggage claim. They resolved it quickly and professionally. Definitely recommend using their services going forward.
This was shockingly bad the entire way. Rude crew members, basically no service to speak of, and gross neglected bathrooms throughout the flight. Then we were stuck on the tarmac at Newark for ninety minutes waiting to deplane. Their 'fly the friendly skies' slogan has to be the most ironic marketing tagline ever created.
From beginning to end, this was shockingly bad. The flight crew was rude, the service was practically nonexistent, and the bathrooms were filthy and nobody cleaned them. To top it off, we sat at Newark for an hour and a half before we could get off the plane. Their whole 'fly the friendly skies' marketing must be some kind of joke.
Getting ahold of customer support is basically impossible. You might be on the phone for over three hours just waiting to talk to someone about a simple question. There's no other way to reach them either. Skip this airline and book elsewhere.
Absolutely terrible experience. I've been stuck in Quito for two days without my baggage. We were initially told our bags were on last night's flight coming in, but then found out they never even left Houston. Spent the whole day on hold and nobody could give us a straight answer about where our luggage is or when it'll arrive. United is hands down the worst airline and we won't be booking with them ever again.
For what I paid for premium Polaris service, the actual experience was weak. I spent over six grand on a Chicago to London flight. My seat got switched twice supposedly because they changed the aircraft, but it shouldn't be that complicated to keep seating assignments when planes swap. Checking bags was annoying too. Then I went to the Polaris lounge for the seated lunch and they told me there were no spots left. Everything about this trip felt like a letdown. It was a waste of money getting premium pricing but ordinary service or sometimes worse.
We arrived at our gate on a Saturday in May expecting our 6:15pm departure from Jacksonville to Newark, but the flight was cancelled. The agent at the desk tried to find us another flight but couldn't locate anything available. After waiting a long time with no options, she told us the earliest she could get us out was Tuesday a couple days later. We agreed and got our Tuesday 6:15pm flight. However, there was no refund for the cancelled flight, which should've happened automatically. Since we live in New Jersey and had to rent another car while waiting, we ended up spending extra money that shouldn't have been necessary. When we went to pick up our luggage, we had to pay again even though we never boarded the original flight. Worse yet, when we opened our suitcase, some of our belongings were missing. That's unacceptable. Your staff handled our luggage carelessly, tossing it around like it was garbage and apparently not protecting it from theft. You need to get your act together, be more careful with customer luggage, and reconsider charging people for bags when their flight was cancelled. We also had to drive hours out of our way because nobody told us where to go next.
