Cavenders Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Cavenders
Cavenders receives sharply divided reviews, with shoppers either highly satisfied or deeply frustrated. Those who praise the store highlight exceptional in-store customer service, particularly staff members who go above and beyond to help customers find what they need. Positive reviewers also commend fast shipping on online orders (often faster than promised), comfortable products that require no break-in period, and efficient phone-based customer service. However, three-quarters of reviews are one-star ratings driven by order cancellations without adequate explanation. Shoppers report placing orders for time-sensitive occasions like birthdays and holidays, only to have them canceled days later with minimal communication or follow-up from customer service representatives.
The stark contrast in ratings suggests Cavenders struggles with order fulfillment and inventory management on the e-commerce side, despite delivering excellent service when transactions proceed smoothly. Customers who visit physical store locations or successfully complete online purchases report positive experiences with product quality and staff responsiveness. The recurring problem of unexplained cancellations, even for customers with long shopping histories, indicates a systemic issue that undermines trust and satisfaction for a significant portion of shoppers.

Sorted by: Most recentI took my daughter and five year old grandson to the Cavenders on Culebra and 1604 and it was honestly the best shopping experience. My grandson was visiting from Canada and wanted a real cowboy hat. The staff members Nate and Anthony really went above and beyond to make it special and memorable for him. We left there so happy and grateful. Those two employees made his whole day incredible.
I placed an order for my son's birthday but the company just left it sitting for seven days then randomly canceled it without telling me why. Really disappointing since my son was looking forward to it.
I ordered a pair of boots from Cavenders online and they showed up much faster than promised. The phone calls with customer service went smoothly and everyone was helpful. I got Cavenders brand ostrich full quill white cowboy boots and they were comfortable right out of the box with zero break in time. I was impressed enough to wear them the same day they arrived. I wish Cavenders made more style options in their own brand, though I learned Old Gringo actually makes them which explains the excellent quality. Overall this was a really good experience from start to finish.
I've shopped with Cavenders for many years, so when I asked for gift cards for the holidays I thought it would be a safe choice. I found two sport coats on a buy one get one half off promotion and ordered right away. Unfortunately the order was canceled with a note saying items weren't in stock. The customer service rep I spoke with just apologized but couldn't help me with anything. The sale ended before I could reorder. Customer service here is really disappointing. If you get their gift cards hoping to take advantage of sales, don't count on being able to use them because the company won't follow through on sales or give you any real help.
I bought ostrich print shoes from the Amarillo location way back in 2006 and they were fantastic. Just recently I placed an order online for my son's boots. According to their site you should allow four days to process, and right at the four day mark UPS picked up from Little Rock. The whole thing took seven days end to end. Since I ordered on April 23rd and got them April 28th shipping out of Dallas to South Carolina, I think that's perfectly acceptable timing. They're not going to operate like Amazon, and I don't expect them to. The boots are Cavenders brand full quill ostrich, really nice and comfy, and the size fit great. I also got myself a pair and couldn't be happier with either purchase.
Back in 2006 I picked up a pair of ostrich print shoes at the Amarillo store and loved them. Recently I ordered some boots online for my son. The website said to expect up to four days for processing, and exactly four days later UPS picked them up from Little Rock. I got the boots to South Carolina within seven days total from an order placed on April 23rd, received April 28th, shipped from Dallas. That's pretty reasonable timing if you ask me, especially since they're not Amazon. The boots my son got are Cavenders brand full quill ostrich and they're really comfortable and well made, perfect fit too. The same goes for the pair I ordered for myself. Very happy with both the quality and the service.
We went to the new Lake Charles Cavenders yesterday looking for work boots for my husband. After asking a salesperson if they had a particular brand and being told no, another employee came over offering help. We explained we were just browsing. We browsed the women's section checking out handbags and matching boots, but this second employee kept staring at us the entire time. With the store full of other customers, she singled us out and followed us everywhere. We were the only Black couple shopping there that day. The level of discomfort and suspicion we felt because of our race was truly hurtful. She was watching us at the front of the store when we left. It made us feel like we were criminals doing something wrong. We ended up taking our business to Boot Barn where we had a wonderful experience without anyone making us feel unwelcome or suspicious.
My spouse and I visited the Cavenders location in Lake Charles yesterday to shop for work boots. We asked one of the salespeople about a specific brand, and she told us they didn't carry it before walking off. Another employee quickly approached asking if we needed anything. We let her know we were just browsing and had already talked to someone. We headed to the women's section to look at some handbags and boots, but noticed this second employee watching us constantly as we moved around the store. Even though there were plenty of customers in the shop, she seemed to focus only on us. We were the only Black couple there, and her behavior made both of us incredibly uncomfortable. She trailed us all the way to the front of the store and continued staring. The way we were treated that day, as if we were a threat, based on nothing but how we look, was something neither of us will forget. We decided to shop elsewhere instead and had a much better experience at another retailer where we found everything we wanted without feeling followed.
My husband went into the Fort Worth Cavenders location to grab some jeans and boots. He'd always worn a size 10D and mentioned to the salesman that he seemed to be going through boots faster lately. The salesman kept pressing him about his feet and posture, then suggested he try EE instead, saying there was only an eighth of an inch difference and it would help. My husband asked right there if returns were possible if the fit wasn't right for him. He came home, tried them on, stepped outside and was back inside within two minutes because they were rubbing his ankle. The next day he went to return them, not even 24 hours after purchase. The manager told him the soles were too damaged to accept a return since she couldn't resell them. He wore them for maybe five minutes before coming inside. It seems like they should just be honest and post that boots can't be returned rather than letting customers think they have that option. If he'd worn them anywhere or done anything rough in them I'd understand, but that's not what happened.
