What Shoppers Say About CLEAR
CLEAR is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. Reviewers report being misled about charges at airport kiosks, where representatives allegedly promised free trials or minimal fees, only to have shoppers charged hundreds of dollars without clear consent or adequate notification. Complaints center on unexpected billing (charges ranging from $200 to $300), difficulty reaching customer service, and feeling pressured or rushed through the enrollment process at airports like JFK and Seattle. A small minority of reviewers appear satisfied, though positive feedback is minimal in the available data.
Recurring issues include unclear communication about membership costs, charges appearing on accounts without explicit authorization, and unhelpful customer service responses that direct disputes to banks rather than resolving them directly. Some shoppers also note that alternative services like TSA PreCheck offer similar or superior benefits. The pattern of complaints suggests systemic problems with how CLEAR presents its pricing and enrollment process, particularly at airport locations.

Sorted by: Most recentThis is truly awful. Straight up theft. My family and I were heading from Denver to the UK and someone asked us to give this a shot. I asked multiple times if we'd be charged and was guaranteed we would not. I even asked again when putting in our details and they said again it was free. We got hit with over $300 in charges. They're now refusing to refund us. Really disappointed and I'd warn everyone to stay far away.
I need to lodge a formal complaint about a misleading sign-up process and an unwanted charge connected to your service at JFK. On February 19th, a representative at the airport offered my family a chance to try the service for no charge. They assured me the trial was completely free and that we'd get an email with cancellation instructions if we didn't want to keep going. Based on that promise, I agreed to join. But the promised email with how to cancel never showed up. Because of that, I couldn't cancel in time. Then I was charged for a membership I never wanted to keep. I need to be clear that I only signed up based on the promise it would be free and easy to cancel. Not getting the cancellation info and then getting charged anyway is misleading and wrong. I'm asking for: A fast cancellation of the
Had issues on both parts of my trip. I was confused about the process and ended up having to go through TSA again, something the company said would never happen. Here's the thing though - TSA PreCheck is actually faster anyway.
I was hurried through at the Seattle airport where they said they were registering me for a free trial. Next thing I knew, I was locked into a membership and billed $230.74 without consent. I phoned to contest it and just got an automated response saying I should call my bank. Really terrible experience.
I was rushed through at the Seattle airport and told they were setting me up for a free trial membership. Before I knew what happened, I was enrolled and my card was charged $230.74 without permission. When I called to dispute it, all I got was an automated message telling me to contact my bank about the charge. Awful experience.
Absolute rip-off. I was waiting in the security line at JFK when someone asked if I wanted a trial for just a dollar to bypass the queue. They promised it was just one week with zero other charges. Fast forward two weeks and they've withdrawn $209 from my bank account without any warning or email confirmation. I called my bank to report it as fraud and they're processing the dispute. My security software even blocks their website login as a potential scam. I've also submitted a complaint to federal fraud authorities like many other victims. Do not use this service.
Total scam. Someone approached me while I was waiting at JFK security asking if I wanted to try their service for $1 to skip the line. They said one week, no additional charges. Two weeks later, $209 disappeared from my account with zero notice or communication. I contacted Visa to report fraud and they're working on a chargeback. Even my antivirus software flags their login page as dangerous. I filed a report with federal authorities just like many others have. Stay away from this company.
They automatically charged $209 to my credit card for renewal even though we never used it and didn't travel anywhere. There was no real reminder before the charge and the automated chat support was useless when I tried to sort it out. All I wanted was to cancel and get my money back, but there was no simple way to speak with someone real or find a solution. With how expensive this service is, the lack of real customer support is unacceptable. You have to monitor your credit card constantly or they'll quietly renew and take your cash. Be really careful with this company. I'm not impressed and I won't use them again.
Clear hit my credit card for $209 to renew my membership even though I wasn't using the service and didn't take any trips. The charge happened without a proper heads-up and when I tried to fix it, their chat bot couldn't help at all. All I wanted was to end my membership and get a refund, but there was no way to talk to an actual person or get real help. For something this pricey, the lack of decent customer service is really bad. If you're not watching your credit card closely, they'll auto-renew and drain your account without warning. I'd be very cautious. This whole thing left me with a terrible impression and I won't be using them again.
I have to give them zero stars. They're running a scam!!! Please be aware. I was at the Miami airport with my granddaughter who has a serious health condition. Security had a line and she became extremely anxious. A representative approached me and said they could get us through fast if we signed up for a free trial for two weeks. I gave them my card. Something felt off, so I cancelled the next morning. Three weeks later they billed me $334. I've disputed the charge and am planning to report it to my state attorney general and the BBB.
