What Shoppers Say About CLEAR
CLEAR is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. Reviewers report being misled about charges at airport kiosks, where representatives allegedly promised free trials or minimal fees, only to have shoppers charged hundreds of dollars without clear consent or adequate notification. Complaints center on unexpected billing (charges ranging from $200 to $300), difficulty reaching customer service, and feeling pressured or rushed through the enrollment process at airports like JFK and Seattle. A small minority of reviewers appear satisfied, though positive feedback is minimal in the available data.
Recurring issues include unclear communication about membership costs, charges appearing on accounts without explicit authorization, and unhelpful customer service responses that direct disputes to banks rather than resolving them directly. Some shoppers also note that alternative services like TSA PreCheck offer similar or superior benefits. The pattern of complaints suggests systemic problems with how CLEAR presents its pricing and enrollment process, particularly at airport locations.

Sorted by: Most recentI would not give them any stars. Do not trust them!!! I was at the Miami airport with my grandchild who has a medical condition when there was a security line causing stress. Someone came over and said they could rush us through with just a free two-week trial. I gave my credit card. I had a bad feeling about it, so I cancelled right away. Three weeks went by and my account was hit with $334. I've contested the charge and plan to report this to my state's attorney general and file a complaint with the BBB.
I can't even give them stars because they deserve zero. This is a total scam and people need to know. I was at the Miami airport with my granddaughter who has a serious medical condition, and there was a line for security. She started having a panic attack and someone walked over saying they could get us through quickly with a free 14 day trial. I handed over my card. I was suspicious about it, so I cancelled the very next day. Almost three weeks later, they charged me $334. I've disputed it and I'm filing a complaint with state authorities and the better business bureau.
That free trial was a terrible decision. I traveled internationally and saw zero benefit. They also gave me unclear instructions that I had to complete an interview. The interview itself cost $79 and I can't get my money back even though it was completely worthless. Customer service takes forever to respond. I'm shocked that such a disorganized company has any role in airport security.
I'm really sorry I took that free trial offer. I used it while traveling abroad and got absolutely nothing useful from it. On top of that, they sent me unclear documents saying I needed to attend an appointment. That meeting ended up costing me $79 and it's not refundable even though I didn't receive any value. Customer service is painfully slow to help. I cannot believe this organization is involved with airline security.
Biggest mistake was agreeing to that free trial. When I traveled internationally, I didn't get any real value from it. They also sent me confusing paperwork saying I had to go in for an appointment. That appointment ran me $79 and was completely non-refundable even though I got nothing out of it. Getting customer service to help takes forever. It's wild to me that a company this incompetent is allowed to work with airport security systems.
The customer support experience is absolutely unacceptable. Getting hold of a real person is basically impossible. After multiple days of calling, I'm stuck listening to the same annoying message repeating like water torture. The AI help feature is equally pointless. It tells you it needs to transfer you to a representative, but then you're back on the endless hold loop that loops every 7 seconds. I tried the online chat with the same result. First it tries the AI assistant route, then claims it can't assist and will connect you to an agent, but just like the phone, no response for at least half an hour regardless of when you call. I needed to merge my account with my spouse's account to stop getting hit with double charges, something they never mentioned was occurring. We only caught it by accident. This organization is absolutely terrible.
Customer service is absolutely terrible and nearly impossible to reach. You cannot get a human on the phone, period. I've been on hold for days listening to the same awful recording over and over, like some kind of torture. The AI chatbot is useless too - it just says it needs to transfer you to someone, then puts you back on the hold line that repeats every 7 seconds. The online chat is the same story. The bot tries to help first, then says it can't and promises to connect you to chat support, but then nobody ever responds - I've waited 30+ minutes no matter what time I reach out. I was just trying to combine my account with my wife's so we wouldn't get double-charged, which we didn't even know was happening. We found out by accident. This company is a nightmare.
I'm at a loss for words. I've been overcharged multiple times even though my subscription doesn't end until December. They claim to be open during certain hours, but representatives are frequently unavailable during their own posted times. I'm on day 17 waiting for a return phone call from support, and the chat keeps saying it's a '15 minute wait' even though I've been waiting for three days. Things got worse when I went for my scheduled appointment. The staff member treated me horribly and even though I had an appointment confirmed, she kicked me out and forced me to go through security at a different terminal, almost making me miss my flight. YOU OWE ME $398, AND I NEED THIS RESOLVED NOW!
Where do I even begin? I keep getting charged over and over even though my membership doesn't expire until December. They say they have customer service hours, but many times nobody is available during those hours. I've been waiting for a callback for 17 days and their chat support has been stuck at '15 minutes' for three days straight. The worst part came when I showed up for my appointment, the staff member was incredibly rude and even though I had a reservation, she turned me away from that line and sent me to another terminal. I almost missed my flight because of this. YOUR COMPANY OWES ME $398 AND I WANT IT BACK NOW!
This is among the worst companies I've worked with. The airport staff seems untrained and confused, and trying to reach anyone online or by phone is basically impossible. They make promises about fixing billing mistakes and then completely ignore them. It's honestly shocking how poorly this is run.
