What Shoppers Say About CLEAR
CLEAR is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 25 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. Reviewers report being misled about charges at airport kiosks, where representatives allegedly promised free trials or minimal fees, only to have shoppers charged hundreds of dollars without clear consent or adequate notification. Complaints center on unexpected billing (charges ranging from $200 to $300), difficulty reaching customer service, and feeling pressured or rushed through the enrollment process at airports like JFK and Seattle. A small minority of reviewers appear satisfied, though positive feedback is minimal in the available data.
Recurring issues include unclear communication about membership costs, charges appearing on accounts without explicit authorization, and unhelpful customer service responses that direct disputes to banks rather than resolving them directly. Some shoppers also note that alternative services like TSA PreCheck offer similar or superior benefits. The pattern of complaints suggests systemic problems with how CLEAR presents its pricing and enrollment process, particularly at airport locations.

Sorted by: Most recentThis company should be shut down. I was stopped by someone at the airport near my gate who promised a no-cost trial to get through security faster. They asked for my credit card and said it was just to verify my identity and that I definitely would not be charged anything. I made sure to ask multiple times to be absolutely clear that there would be no charges. They confirmed each time that it was free, but that turned out to be completely false. My card was charged $199 for one day of service. The people running this operation deserve serious legal consequences.
This service is an absolute embarrassment. You blocked me from verifying my identity on LinkedIn just because I use Mint Mobile instead of Verizon, which is a major carrier with billions in revenue. Forcing my identity to be tied specifically to my phone carrier makes no sense and feels deliberately harmful. This looks like Clear is working with Verizon to pressure customers into switching carriers. That's not just playing favorites, it's predatory and wrong. This decision directly impacts my professional presence and my ability to earn. Clear, this is shameful and unethical behavior. Absolutely unacceptable.
This is 100% a scam!!! Do not use this! WARNING!!! This company stole $200 from me! They took my money one week after I cancelled my account!
They asked if we wanted to speed through security check. That was it. Took us to a machine and only then mentioned we had a 14 day trial and would be charged $209 plus $125 extra per family member. They get you to sign up through misleading information, then charge you. It's a scam, especially for folks who don't travel much. Plus it wasn't faster anyway. You still have to show your ID or Real ID and get your face scanned, just like TSA PreCheck. So why pay for something ahead of time when you do it for free afterward? Makes zero sense. We thought we were getting to skip straight to the bag scanners. Instead they're billing you to repeat something you have to do again at no cost.
I've been using this service for over a year and honestly think it's worth the cost. Something great happened today. When I got to the security gate, my birthday on my reservation was written wrong from my company. They told me to go back and get a new boarding pass. When I came back, the Clear employee made sure I got right back to the front of the line. I got through in just minutes. That was really excellent service - shout out to the person working!
