What Shoppers Say About Reef
Reef is rated 1.6 out of 5 by 24 shoppers, with a majority expressing serious dissatisfaction. The most common complaint centers on product durability: multiple reviewers report shoes and sandals failing or falling apart within hours of wear, which is particularly frustrating for long-time customers who recall the brand's products lasting years. Additional frustrations include inflexible order management (inability to modify orders after submission, unresponsive customer service when addressing shipping errors), unexpected return fees, and what some perceive as declining quality and corner-cutting in construction.
A small minority of shoppers give positive ratings, with some appreciating the product selection and design. However, positive feedback is vastly outweighed by reports of premature product failure, poor customer service responsiveness, and frustration with return policies. Several reviewers identify themselves as formerly loyal customers who feel let down by recent changes in quality and service standards.

Sorted by: Most recentGot a pair of Reef sneakers through Amazon and they split open after just 3 or 4 hours of wearing. Reef sent me a replacement pair that literally fell apart the same way in just a few hours. Now they're saying they won't give me my money back and want to give me store credit instead. Why would I spend anything on their site when I've seen how poorly made their products are? They're also refusing to back my Amazon purchase. I'm done with this company and would recommend staying away.
The shoe I got is nice, but I was surprised by a new $8 handling charge when I tried to return it. The shoe runs big and I wanted to send it back, but it's in perfect condition and well within the return window. That extra fee caught me off guard.
I want to start by saying I've been loyal to Reef for more than 20 years. Never once returned anything or complained. Last week I ordered two pairs of sandals and a tank top. When the package arrived, I realized the tank top wasn't what I ordered. I texted customer service right away with my order number, photos showing what I actually got, and a timestamped picture. I figured like any decent company, they'd tell me to keep the wrong shirt and send the right one out. I was wrong. Instead they said they wouldn't send me the correct item unless I drove to the local UPS store (over 15 minutes away), paid for a shipping box, and mailed back the wrong shirt they sent me. For my inconvenience, they threw me a 20% coupon. That's ridiculous. I'm done shopping with them. I'm a reasonable person. If I'd ordered something and just didn't want it, sure, I'd handle the return. But this is on them. I won't be back.
I'm really disappointed that there's no option to make changes to your order after you submit it. Right after I hit the button, I realized my delivery address was wrong, but there was nothing I could do about it. I emailed them immediately to see if they could fix it, but they said once an order goes through, they can't modify it.
I've been a Reef sandal fan since the 1990s and usually have at least one pair of the Sandy model on hand. The quality has taken a serious nosedive lately. Used to be that a single pair would last me several years, which tells you something about why they might be cutting corners now. When I'd get a fresh pair, the arch support and cushioning were noticeably better than my worn-in ones. That's definitely not the case anymore. Current pairs feel stiff as boards with barely any arch support. Plus the sizing is totally different now. I've always worn an 8, and when I compared my new 8 to an older one, the new pair is easily half a size smaller. At least my 7.5 will work. This will be my last purchase from them. For $45, these just aren't worth it anymore. I'm switching to Teva or something comparable. It breaks my heart because I've loved these sandals since I found them as a teenager in the 90s. I've seen complaints online about this exact problem for a while now and kept hoping people were exaggerating, but they're not. The fact that the company hasn't done anything about it shows how little they care about the people who have stuck with them. Step it up, Reef. I might return these, or maybe try again down the road, but I'm not hopeful.
I want to give a fair account of what happened. The shop app automatically filled in my shipping address, but it had my old address from before I moved. I noticed this right away after I submitted my purchase and reached out to customer service that same day before anything shipped to ask if they could update it. Unfortunately, they never got back to me on email. When I tried the live chat later that day, they said they couldn't modify the address at that point. I get that address changes can be tricky once an order is in motion. But given how quickly I contacted them, the lack of response and unwillingness to work with me on any solution like updating the address, canceling the order, or resending it somewhere else was really frustrating. I'm sharing this because I hope it pushes them to be more responsive and flexible when customers catch issues early and reach out right away.
Their customer service is absolutely rude. I wanted to return some clothes that still had tags on and had never been worn. I was just one day past their return cutoff. And keep in mind I'd bought 5 pairs of shoes and a dress too. I explained I'd had the flu really bad and was stuck in bed for a week, so I couldn't get the return processed in time. They wouldn't budge. All I wanted was to swap it for a smaller size anyway. The customer service reps were so hostile and unhelpful. I will absolutely never buy from Reef again.
The Swellsole Neptune Shoe just isn't worth the money. It feels cheap and flimsy. I tried to send it back, but their customer service was rude and unhelpful. Reef used to care about keeping customers happy. Looks like those days are gone.
The shoes themselves are great. I did have to poke an extra hole in the strap since they were snug around my ankle, but that was an easy fix. The real problem is how they handled my order. I used a coupon code when I checked out, but then they canceled it saying they were sold out. Immediately after, I placed another order and the size was still showing as available, so it went through fine. The problem is I couldn't use the coupon a second time since it expired after the first order. Basically they canceled my discounted order and then let me buy at full price instead. That feels pretty shady.
My wife and I dropped $330 on the website during Memorial Day sales. A week goes by and my wife's wondering where the shoes are since we have a trip planned. I check the tracking from "Delivery Direct" (a shipping company known for losing packages), and our order has been sitting at the local airport for 6 days. Tried calling Reef but couldn't get a real person, just the same 10 second hold music loop on repeat that I'll probably be hearing in my nightmares. I've sent multiple emails to both Reef and Delivery Direct. Almost a week of silence while they hold onto $330 of my money. Thankfully American Express isn't that kind of company and already credited my account. Reef might've saved a couple dollars using a third-rate shipper, but they lost a loyal customer in the process. They're going to regret this decision.
